Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has invited online applications for 33rd Bihar Judicial Services Exam to fill 173 Civil Judge (Junior Division) posts under Bihar Judicial Service. Interested and eligible candidates can submit their applications through the prescribed online process on or before 18-03-2026.

The post involves performing judicial duties in district courts, including hearing cases, delivering judgments, and handling matters related to civil and criminal law as per the responsibilities of a judicial officer.

In-hand monthly salary will exceed Rs 1.10 lakh after adding allowances

Age Conditions
  • Age Reference Dates:
    • The reference date for calculating the minimum age is 01-08-2025, and the reference date for calculating the maximum age is 01-02-2022. This effectively provides 3 years of relaxation in the upper age limit for all categories of candidates.
    • Based on these limits, the birth date for Unreserved (Male) candidates should fall between 02-08-1987 and 01-08-2003.
  • Upper Age Limit Relaxation:
    • Reserved Categories (SC, ST, EBC, BC): Up to 40 years.
    • Unreserved Female candidates: Up to 40 years.
    • Orthopedically Handicapped (OH) candidates: Up to 40 years.
Other Eligibility Conditions
  • This is a permanent government position, with retirement at the age of 60 years.
  • Reservation benefits (SC, ST, EBC, BC, EWS) are only available to permanent residents/domiciles of Bihar. Candidates from outside Bihar will be treated as Unreserved (General) category.
  • If an officer leaves or resigns before completing three years of service, they must provide 3 months' notice or pay 3 months' salary.

Mode of Recruitment :

The selection process will consist of three stages – Preliminary Written Examination (Objective), Main Written Examination (Subjective), and Interview.

Preliminary Written Examination

If the number of applicants is high, a Preliminary Examination will be conducted. The examination will consist of two objective-type multiple-choice question papers.

Candidates will be shortlisted for the Main Written Examination based on the results of the Preliminary Examination. The number of candidates selected for the Main Examination will be ten times the total number of available vacancies. The minimum qualifying marks for the Preliminary Examination will be 45% for unreserved categories and 40% for reserved categories.

Main Written Examination

The Main Written Examination will consist of compulsory and optional subjects. All papers will be descriptive (subjective) in nature.

General Hindi and General English are qualifying papers. Candidates must secure a minimum of 30 marks in each paper; however, these marks will not be included in the final merit calculation. For the optional subjects, candidates must choose any three subjects from the following list.

Interview / Personality Test

Candidates who qualify in the Main Written Exam will be called for Interview. The ratio of candidates called for the interview will be 3:1 based on the number of vacancies. The interview will carry 100 marks. Candidates must obtain at least 35% marks in the interview to be considered for final merit list.

Final merit list will be prepared based on the basis of combined marks obtained in Main Written Exam and Interview.

Fee Structure :

Application fee is Rs 100 for candidates of all categories, to be paid online. An additional Biometric Fee of Rs 200 is applicable for candidates who do not provide their Aadhaar Number in the online application.

How to Apply :

Candidates can apply through the online application system after completing One Time Registration (OTR) and profile creation on BPSC portal. The process involves OTR registration, optional DigiLocker verification, profile creation, and submission of the application form with fee payment. Applicants should carefully complete all stages as detailed below -
  • Account Registration and Login
    • Complete One Time Registration (OTR) by entering basic details and verifying the account using OTP received on the registered mobile number or email.
    • OTR registration is mandatory for applying to BPSC examinations and the same OTR account can be used for future BPSC exam applications.
    • If already registered on the previous portal, OTR must be completed again on the new portal before applying.
    • More than one OTR registration is not allowed.
    • After completing OTR, log in using the registered email/mobile number and password.
  • DigiLocker Verification
    • After OTR, the DigiLocker or Meri Pehchan portal will open.
    • If a DigiLocker account already exists, applicants can give consent and link their documents through the OAMS system.
    • If a DigiLocker account is not available, a new account can be created and then consent can be provided.
    • If applicants do not wish to proceed through DigiLocker, they can use the browser back option to return to the application portal and continue the process.
  • Profile Creation
    • Personal Information – enter personal details such as category (UR/EWS/BC/EBC/SC/ST), gender, Aadhaar number, marital status, disability details (if applicable), NCC details, and government employee information if applicable.
    • Address Information – provide complete address details including state, district, and PIN code. If permanent and correspondence address are the same, select “Same as Above”.
    • Other Information – provide information about any criminal case or prosecution if applicable.
    • Qualification Information – enter educational details from at least 10th and 12th onwards including board/university, subject, qualification status (Completed or Appearing), year, attempts, marks obtained, total marks, percentage/grade, course mode (Regular or Distance), compulsory and optional subjects, and seat/roll number where required.
    • Experience Information – if applicable, provide details such as department/organization name, post name, grade or pay level, nature of appointment, and period of service.
  • Photo and Signature Upload
    • A live photograph must be captured using a webcam.
    • Both Hindi and English signatures must be uploaded.
    • Signature file size should be approximately 20 KB.
    • Signature image dimensions should be around width 150–220 pixels and height 250–320 pixels.
  • Profile Locking
    • After completing all profile details, save the information and lock the profile.
    • If any error is found before submitting an application, the profile can be unlocked, corrected, updated, and locked again.
    • Once the profile is locked and the application is submitted, further modifications in the profile are not allowed.
  • Application Submission
    • After profile creation, open the New Application section to view ongoing or active advertisements.
    • Open the relevant advertisement (Civil Judge Exam here) and check the eligibility criteria carefully.
    • Submit and Pay Fees.
    • Complete the online payment process to finalize the application.
  • Application Management
    • The My Account section provides options such as Application Form Print, Cancel Application, Pay Now (if payment is pending), and Payment History.
    • If any mistake is noticed after submitting the application, the application can be cancelled and a new corrected application can be submitted.
    • Details such as name, date of birth, category, and examination fee information cannot be modified once submitted.
  • Notes
    • Registered mobile number and email ID should remain active and secure as OTP and important communications will be sent through them.
    • After submitting the application, download and keep a printed copy for personal record and future reference.
    • The printed application form is not required to be sent to Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). It only needs to be kept safely for future use or verification.
    • If any problem occurs during OTR or application submission, it can be reported through the Grievance section available in the account.
