Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has invited online applications from eligible candidates for recruitment to 300 posts of Assistant Prosecution Officers in the Home Department (Directorate of Prosecution), under Advt 13/2026. The last date to apply online for the concerned posts is 20-03-2026.
These are permanent positions offering a promising career within the state’s legal and judicial framework under Pay Level-9. The role primarily involves representing the government in criminal proceedings and ensuring the effective administration of justice. Selected officers will conduct prosecutions in courts and apply their knowledge of criminal and related laws to uphold the rule of law.

Mode of Recruitment :
Selection process for the post of Assistant Prosecution Officer will consist of three stages – Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Interview (Personality Test).
Preliminary Examination
The Preliminary Examination will act as a screening test to shortlist candidates for the Main Examination. It will consist of two objective-type papers. Marks obtained in this stage will not be counted for preparation of the final merit list.
Candidates must secure minimum qualifying marks according to their category: 40% for General, 36.5% for Backward Class, 34% for Extremely Backward Class, and 32% for SC/ST, Women, and PwBD candidates. Approximately ten times the total number of advertised vacancies will be shortlisted for the Main Examination. There will be no negative marking in the Preliminary Examination.

Main Examination
Candidates who qualify in the Preliminary Examination will be called for the Main Examination. The Main Examination will consist of eight descriptive papers, each with a duration of three hours.
Hindi and English language papers will be qualifying in nature. Candidates must obtain at least 30 marks in each paper to qualify. Marks obtained in these language papers will not be counted towards the final merit list.

Interview (Personality Test)
The final stage of selection will be an Interview carrying 100 marks. Candidates will be shortlisted for the interview based on their performance in the Main Examination (excluding language papers). Approximately two and a half times the number of vacancies will be called for this stage.
Final selection will be based on the combined marks obtained in the Main Examination and Interview. In case of a tie in total marks, the candidate with higher marks in the Main Examination will be ranked higher. If the tie still persists, the older candidate will be given preference.
Fee Structure :
The application fee details for the Assistant Prosecution Officer recruitment are as follows:
- Application Fee is Rs 100 for candidates of all Categories.
- Biometric Fee: Candidates who do not provide their Aadhaar Number in the application will be required to pay an additional ₹200.
- Payment must be made online through the integrated payment gateway.
- The application fee is non-refundable.
How to Apply :
Step 1: One Time Registration (OTR)
- Visit the official BPSC portal and select the New User Registration option to begin the One Time Registration (OTR) process.
- Provide a valid mobile number and email ID and complete verification using the OTP sent to them.
- After successful registration, a username and password will be generated. These credentials remain valid for all future BPSC examinations.
- Once the OTR profile is locked, details such as Name, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, Gender, Aadhaar Number, and Date of Birth cannot be modified.
Step 2: DigiLocker Integration (Meri Pehchan)
- After completing OTR, the system automatically redirects to the DigiLocker Meri Pehchan Portal.
- If an account already exists, sign in and provide Consent to OAMS to link documents.
- If no account exists, select New Sign Up to create an account and then provide the required consent.
- If DigiLocker is not preferred, the browser Back button may be used to return to the BPSC login page and continue the process manually.
Step 3: Profile Creation (6 Phases)
- Personal Information: Select the applicable category (UR, EWS, BC, EBC, SC, ST) and provide details regarding disability status, ex-serviceman status, or NCC if applicable. Save the information.
- Address Information: Enter the permanent address and correspondence address and save the details.
- Other Information: Declare whether any criminal case or punishment exists and save the information.
- Qualification Information: Enter educational details beginning from the 10th class onwards. Required details include subject, board/university, status (completed/appearing), passing date, number of attempts, marks obtained, total marks, percentage, and roll number. Use the Add option for each entry and then save.
- Experience Information: If applicable, provide details of present or previous employment such as department, designation, pay scale, and joining date. Add the information and save.
- Photo, Signature and Profile Lock:
- A live photograph must be captured through a webcam with a clear image.
- Upload scanned signatures in both Hindi and English.
- Image specifications: maximum size 20 KB, width 150–220 pixels, height 250–320 pixels.
- After verifying all details, select the confirmation option and click Submit and Lock Profile.
Step 4: Applying for an Examination
- After the profile is locked, open the New Application tab where active examinations are displayed.
- Select View against the desired advertisement, review the eligibility criteria, and proceed with Submit & Pay Fees.
- Complete the application fee payment using the available online payment options.
- If payment fails or remains pending, the Commission does not assume responsibility for such issues.
Step 5: Printing and Record Keeping
- Open the My Account section and select View under the Action column to download the submitted application form. Take two printed copies of the completed application.
- The printed copies should not be sent to the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) office and should be kept safely for record and document verification.
- It is advisable to keep four physical copies of the same photograph captured through the webcam for future use.
