Western Railway has invited online applications for contract-based engagement as Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act 1961, for a total of 5349 training slots across various divisions and workshops. The last date to apply online is 23-03-2026. Selected applicants shall undergo Apprenticeship Training for a period of one year.

This apprenticeship provides valuable hands-on training in railway trades and can create better future opportunities in related technical profiles. Candidates who complete Act Apprenticeship can benefit in future Railway CEN (Common Employment Notification) recruitments for Level-1 posts, as they may receive preference for up to 20% of the vacancies under the CCAA (Course Completed Act Apprentice) quota.

Age Relaxation:
  • SC/ST: Upper age limit relaxed by 5 years.
  • OBC: Upper age limit relaxed by 3 years.
  • PwBD: Upper age limit relaxed by 10 years.
  • Ex-Servicemen: Upper age limit relaxed by an additional 10 years plus length of military service, and 3 years extra as per rules.

Other Eligibility Conditions:

  • ITI qualification must be completed on or before the last date of application.
  • Engineering graduates and diploma holders are not eligible under this apprenticeship scheme.
  • Candidates from all States and Union Territories can apply.
  • Candidates may apply separately for each relevant trade if they possess ITI qualifications in more than one trade.

Career Advantage:

  • Candidates completing Act Apprenticeship with NAC may receive preference for up to 20% of vacancies in future direct recruitment for Level-1 posts under the CCAA quota, subject to eligibility criteria.

Mode of Recruitment :

Selection process will be based on a merit list prepared by taking the average of the percentage marks obtained in Matriculation (minimum 50% aggregate) and ITI examination, with equal weightage given to both. There will be no written test or viva. In case of a tie, preference will be given to the older candidate, and if the date of birth is also the same, the candidate who passed Matriculation earlier will be given priority.

Matriculation marks will be calculated using the total marks of all subjects (including optional and additional subjects). ITI marks will be calculated using the average marks of all semesters as per the consolidated statement issued by NCVT.

Trade-wise and community-wise merit list will be issued by the concerned Divisions/Units, and candidates will be called for document verification based on merit and the Division/Workshop opted. Final selection will be subject to verification of original documents and submission of a Medical Fitness Certificate.

Fee Structure :

Applicable application fee is to be paid online. Fee structure is -

  • UR / OBC / EWS : ₹100/-
  • SC / ST / PwBD / Women Applicants : No fee

How to Apply :

Candidates are required to submit their applications online by following the steps given below:

  1. Visit the official online application portal and carefully fill in the required details such as personal information, trade, Aadhaar number, marks/CGPA, and select one preferred Division/Workshop.
  2. Enter Aadhaar number / 28-digit Aadhaar Enrolment ID in the online form. The original Aadhaar Card will be required at the time of Document Verification.
  3. Make sure that name, father’s name, and date of birth are exactly as mentioned in Matriculation/SSC certificate.
  4. Provide a valid mobile number and email ID and keep them active throughout the engagement process, as important updates will be communicated through the official website and via email/SMS to shortlisted candidates.
  5. If the candidate holds ITI qualifications in more than one trade, separate applications may be submitted for each eligible trade.
  6. Upload clear and self-attested scanned copies of the following documents:
    • SSC (10th) marksheet and certificate as proof of date of birth.
    • Consolidated ITI marksheets for all semesters and Provisional/National Trade Certificate issued by NCVT.
    • Caste Certificate for SC/ST/OBC candidates, in the prescribed format (if applicable).
    • Non-Creamy Layer Certificate for OBC (valid for 2025–2026), issued on or after 01-04-2025, along with Self-Declaration (Annexure D), if applicable.
    • EWS Income & Asset Certificate (if applicable).
    • Disability Certificate for PwBD candidates, in prescribed format (if applicable).
    • Discharge/Serving Certificate for Ex-Servicemen (if applicable).
    • A recent colour photograph (3.5 cm x 3.5 cm), not older than three months from the date of application, in JPG/JPEG format with 100 DPI resolution and file size between 20 KB and 70 KB. The photograph should clearly show the front view without cap or sunglasses. Keep two additional copies for Document Verification.
    • Scanned signature (3.5 cm x 3.5 cm) in JPG/JPEG format with 100 DPI resolution and file size between 20 KB and 30 KB.
  7. Pay the applicable application fee through the online mode, if required.
  8. After successful submission, download and keep a printout of the application form for future reference. There is no need to send the printout to Railway Recruitment Cell Western Railway at this stage.
