OSSSC Recruitment 2026 Forester, Forest Guard and Excise Constable 1518 Posts Online Application

Odisha Sub-Ordinate Staff Selection Commission (OSSSC) is inviting online applications for the Combined Recruitment Examination-2025 (II) to fill a total of 1518 vacancies for the posts of Forester, Forest Guard, and Excise Constables. These are Group C district/circle/division cadre posts where selected candidates will be appointed on a regular basis in the respective pay scales. The last date to submit online applications is 07-02-2026, though candidates must complete their registration or re-registration by 31-01-2026.

Before applying, it is mandatory for candidates to thoroughly check their eligibility compliance, including specific age limits, educational qualifications, and physical standards required for each post. Foresters and Forest Guards are responsible for the protection and management of forest resources and wildlife, while Excise Constables focus on enforcing excise laws and preventing the illegal trade of intoxicants. These roles involve field-based duties that require meeting strict physical measurement and efficiency criteria, such as walking tests and height requirements.

Medical and Physical Fitness Conditions
  • For the post of Excise Constable, candidates must not have knock knee, bow legs, flat foot, varicose veins, squint in eyes, poor vision, colour blindness, inability to flex fingers properly, speech or hearing impediment, or any other obvious deformity.

  • No domicile restriction is specified; candidates from all states may apply for these posts.
  • Candidate must be able to read, write, and speak Odia and must have passed Odia as a language subject or equivalent qualifying condition.

Mode of Recruitment :

The selection process will be conducted in multiple stages including Written Examination, Physical Standard Measurement Test, Physical Efficiency Test, Document Verification, and Medical Examination.

Stage I – Written Examination

The Written Examination will be conducted first and will be objective in nature. The examination will be held either in OMR based or Computer Based mode as decided by the Commission.

Written Examination will carry negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer. There will be no penalty for leaving a question unanswered. The Written Examination will have minimum qualifying marks prescribed category-wise.

  • Unreserved category candidates will be required to secure at least 30% marks.
  • SC, ST, Persons with Disabilities, and Ex-Servicemen candidates will be required to secure at least 35% marks.

In case two or more candidates secure equal marks in the Written Examination, the tie will be resolved by applying the following criteria in the same order.

  • The candidate with lesser wrong number of wrong attempts will be placed higher in the merit list.
  • If the tie continues further, the candidate older in age will be placed higher in the merit list.

For the post of Excise Constable, candidates possessing NCC certificate will be given additional maks - 1 Mark for NCC 'B' Certificate amd 2 marks for NCC 'C' Certificate.

Stage II – Physical Standard Measurement Test (PSM / PST)

The Physical Standard Measurement Test will be conducted to verify height, chest, and weight standards as prescribed for the respective posts. Candidates who fail to meet the prescribed standards will not be allowed to participate in further stages. The number of candidates shortlisted for the Physical Test will not be less than three times the number of vacancies.

Candidates having colour blindness will not be eligible for the posts of Forester and Forest Guard.

Stage III – Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Candidates qualifying the Physical Standard Measurement Test will appear in the Physical Efficiency Test. The PET will be qualifying in nature.

Stage IV – Document Verification

Candidates qualifying the Physical Efficiency Test will be called for Document Verification. Original documents relating to age, educational qualification, category, and other eligibility conditions will be verified.

Stage V – Medical Examination

Candidates found eligible after Document Verification will undergo Medical Examination to ensure compliance with prescribed medical and physical fitness standards. Final selection will be based on merit (Written test) subject to medical fitness.

Fee Structure :

Applicable application fee is to be paid online. Fee structure is -

  • UR / SEBC candidates: ₹500
  • SC / ST / PWD candidates: ₹200

How to Apply :

Applicants must follow the step-by-step process given below to submit the online application correctly.

  1. Registration
    1. Visit the official recruitment portal of Odisha Sub-ordinate Staff Selection Commission.
    2. New users must complete online registration by providing basic details to generate a User ID and password.
    3. Already registered users must log in using their existing User ID and password.
    4. Registration alone will not be treated as submission of application. It can be done till 31-01-2026.
  2. Filling of Online Application Form
    1. Log in and fill the online application form with personal, educational, and other required details.
    2. Ensure all eligibility conditions except age are fulfilled on the last date of submission of online application.
    3. Incomplete or incorrect applications will be rejected.
  3. Upload of Documents
    1. Upload scanned passport-size colour photograph in JPG/JPEG format.
    2. Upload scanned full signature in JPG/JPEG format.
    3. File size for photograph and signature must be between 20 KB and 50 KB.
    4. Certificates and mark sheets should be kept ready for filling details but are not required to be uploaded at this stage.
  4. Payment of Application Fee
    1. Pay the applicable application fee online through Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, or UPI.
    2. After successful payment, ensure that the transaction is completed and acknowledged by the system.
  5. Final Submission
    1. Preview the filled application form carefully before final submission.
    2. Submit the online application on or before the last date.
    3. The last date for receipt of online application is 07-02-2026.
  6. Record Keeping
    1. Do not send any printed copy of the application form to Odisha Sub-ordinate Staff Selection Commission.
    2. Applicants may keep a printout or saved copy of the submitted application for future reference.
