Navratna PSU National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has invited applications under a Special Recruitment Drive (SRD) for SC, ST, OBC (NCL), and PwBD candidates for total 72 vacancies of Trainee Engineers in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical disciplines. The last date to submit the online application is 06-04-2026.

The recruitment is intended to appoint qualified engineering graduates who have a valid GATE 2024 or GATE 2025 score to support NHPC’s hydropower and renewable energy projects across various locations. Selected candidates will initially undergo training and will later be absorbed as Engineers responsible for technical operations, project execution, and maintenance of power infrastructure. Full time regular Bachelor's Degree in Engineering / Technology or B.Sc (Engineering) in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized Indian University or Institute approved by AICTE with minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade.

Eligible disciplines include Mechanical, Production, Thermal, and Mechanical & Automation Engineering.

Other Eligibility Conditions

  • Valid GATE 2024 or GATE 2025 score in the relevant discipline is mandatory.
  • A candidate can apply for only the post corresponding to their engineering discipline and relevant GATE paper.

Employment Terms

  • Selected candidates will undergo one year training as Trainee Engineer and will be absorbed as Engineer/Officer after successful completion of training.
  • A service agreement bond of Rs.4,00,000 plus GST for OBC (NCL) and Rs.2,00,000 plus GST for SC/ST/PwBD candidates is required for minimum four years of service including training period.

Mode of Recruitment :

The selection process will consist of three stages: Shortlisting on the basis of GATE 2024 / GATE 2025 Normalized Score, Group Discussion, and Personal Interview.

GATE 2024 / GATE 2025 Score

Candidates will be required to have a valid score in the corresponding paper of GATE 2024 or GATE 2025. If a candidate has appeared in both examinations, the best score will be considered. Shortlisting for the next stage will be based on normalized marks out of 100 obtained in the corresponding GATE paper.

Candidates will be shortlisted for the next stage in the ratio of not more than five times the number of vacancies in the respective discipline and category based on GATE 2024 / 2025 normalized marks. If two or more candidates secure equal marks and the ratio of 1:5 exceeds, all such candidates with the same marks will also be called for the next stage.

Group Discussion / Personal Interview

Candidates shortlisted based on GATE marks will be required to appear for Group Discussion and Personal Interview. Shortlisted candidates will need to submit a consent form to confirm their participation as per the scheduled timeline. Failure to submit the consent form or absence from the GD/PI will result in cancellation of the candidature. Candidates are also required to carry the documents specified in their GD/PI call letter at the time of appearing for the process.

There will be cut off marks for the combined score of Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

Candidates who qualify in the combined score of Personal Interview and Group Discussion and also have a valid GATE 2024 / GATE 2025 score will be considered eligible for empanelment as per the combined merit. In case two or more candidates secure the same marks in the final merit, the candidate with the older date of birth will be placed higher in the merit list.

Fee Structure :

Applicable application fee is to be paid online. Fee structure is -

  • OBC (NCL): Rs. 600 plus applicable taxes (Total Rs. 708).
  • SC / ST/ PwBD/ Women / Ex-Servicemen: No application fee.

How to Apply :

The application process will be completed online by following the steps below.

  1. The prescribed online application form should be filled with correct details including the GATE 2024 or GATE 2025 registration number. After submission, the system will generate a unique registration number.
  2. Scanned copies of required documents should be kept ready in PDF format between 100 KB and 400 KB for uploading. These include -
    1. Proof of date of birth
    2. Mark sheets and certificates of educational qualifications such as XII and graduation
    3. Certificate confirming completion of the course on full time or regular basis from the institution
    4. Copy of the GATE 2024 or GATE 2025 score card.
    5. If Applicable - caste certificate, disability certificate, certificate for conversion of CGPA or grades to percentage, declaration regarding medical fitness.
  3. A recent passport size colour photograph in JPEG format of less than 50 KB and signature in JPEG format of less than 25 KB should be uploaded as per instructions in the application form.
  4. The application fee should be paid (if applicable), and the form should be submitted after verifying all entered details.
  5. A printout of the registration slip or application form generated by the system should be kept for future reference. The printout should not be sent to NHPC at this stage.
  6. The online application can be submitted from 16-03-2026 (10:00) to 06-04-2026 (17:00).
