This initiative is crucial for the maintenance of registered varieties under the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Act, providing a physical reference for Distinctness, Uniformity, and Stability (DUS) testing. The field gene bank serves as a vital safeguard against the loss of high-value horticultural and perennial crops.
