India Post is inviting online applications for the engagement of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS), including Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak roles, for various vacant posts across different circles. The last date for submission of online applications and fee payment is 16-02-2026. However, initial user registration is to be done by 14-02-2026. Total 28470 GDS vacancies are to be filled under this recruitment drive.
The engagement for these positions is on a non-regular basis, governed by Gramin Dak Sevaks (Conduct and Engagement) Rules 2020,. The Job Profile for a Branch Postmaster (BPM) includes managing day-to-day postal operations and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) transactions at the Branch Office, while Assistant Branch Postmasters (ABPM) and Dak Sevaks focus on the sale of stamps, stationery, and the conveyance and delivery of mail at the doorstep.
- Working Hours: A Sevak shall not be required to perform duty beyond a maximum period of 5 hours per day.
- Age Limit: A Sevak shall not be retained beyond 65 years of age.
- Other Source of Income: A Sevak must provide an undertaking confirming the availability of other sources of income, ensuring adequate livelihood for self and family apart from Government allowances.
- Leave Entitlement: Gramin Dak Sevaks are eligible for paid leave up to 20 days per year and emergency leave up to 5 days per calendar year. Female GDS with less than two surviving children may also avail maternity leave of 180 days, as per departmental rules.
- Residence Condition: Selected candidates must reside within the post village or delivery jurisdiction within one month before engagement. Non-compliance may lead to disciplinary action including removal.
- Voluntary Discharge Scheme: GDS may opt for voluntary discharge after completion of 20 years of engagement or on medical grounds, as per prevailing departmental instructions.

- After 30-06-2026, Process of engagement will be closed, and no further list of shortlisted candidates will be issued.
Mode of Recruitment :
The selection process will include the following stages: Merit List Preparation, Application Scrutiny, Document Verification Provisional and Final Engagement.
Merit List Preparation
Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of a system-generated merit list prepared from Class 10 marks. Marks will be calculated up to 4 decimal places. If only grades are mentioned, marks will be derived using a multiplication factor of 9.5. CGPA, if available, will be multiplied by 9.5 and the higher value will be considered. No test will be conducted under this recruitment drive.
Application Scrutiny
Applications with incomplete details, incorrect documents, mismatch with Class 10 data, or blurred photograph/signature will be rejected. Shortlisted candidates will be informed through the GDS Online Engagement Portal, SMS and email. Candidates will regularly check the portal for updates.
Physical Verification of Documents
Shortlisted candidates will report to the designated Divisional/Unit Head within 15 days. Failure to report will lead to automatic cancellation.

Provisional & Final Engagement
After successful verification, a system-generated offer of provisional engagement will be issued. Candidates will complete joining formalities within 30 days from the offer date, including mandatory training of 3 days. Failure to join within 30 days will result in cancellation.
Fee Structure :
Applicable application fee is to be paid online. Fee structure is -
- UR/OBC/EWS/Male/Trans-man: Rs. 100/- (One Hundred Rupees)
- Female / SC / ST / PwD / Trans-Female candidates: Exempted (No Fee)
How to Apply :
Apply for India Post GDS Online Engagement (January 2026) by completing the online application process carefully. Candidates must first complete One-Time Registration, followed by submission of the online application form. Read all instructions properly before applying.
- Complete One-Time Registration on the GDS Online Engagement portal.
- Keep the following details ready before registration:
- Valid mobile number (OTP verification required)
- Valid email ID (OTP verification required)
- Class 10 (Matriculation) board name
- Year of passing Class 10
- Fill the One-Time Registration Form:
- Verify mobile number and email ID through OTP
- Enter personal details such as name, date of birth, gender, father’s/guardian’s name, mother’s name and community
- Create login password
- After successful registration:
- Registration number will be generated
- Registration number and password will be sent to registered mobile number and email ID
- Login using the registration number and password received through SMS.
- Fill the Online Application Form in the following order:
- Personal Details – Some information will be auto-filled from registration data. Complete remaining fields carefully.
- Board / Educational Details – Enter Class 10 board name, passing year and marks obtained.
- Division Selection and Post Preference:
- Candidate can apply in only one selected Division.
- Eligible posts will appear based on community, age, PwD status and local language studied.
- Preferences must be given in order of priority.
- If shortlisted, only one post will be offered and all other preferences will be forfeited.
- If more than one post has the same post name, preference must be given for each Post ID separately.
- Upload Photograph and Signature strictly as per specifications.
- Preview the application form before final submission and make corrections if required.
- Pay the application fee, if applicable, and submit the application.

Important Instructions
- Applications with blurred photographs or blurred/miniature signatures will be rejected.
- Candidate must verify the preview before final submission.
- Mobile number and email ID cannot be changed under any circumstances.
- Details entered must exactly match Class 10 certificate records.
- Duplicate registrations will lead to cancellation.
No application printout is required to be sent to India Post at present. Candidates may keep one copy of the submitted application for future reference.
