BARC Recruitment 2026 Scientific Officers (OCES / DGFS) Posts Online Application

Applications are invited for a recruitment program for the post of Scientific Officers in the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), through One-Year Orientation Course for Engineering Graduates and Science Postgraduates for the academic year 2026–2027 (OCES-2026), to be conducted at the BARC Training Schools.

Some of the candidates selected for the OCES program will be offered the Two-Year DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme for Engineering Graduates for the years 2026-2027 (DGFS-2026). Under this, Engineering Graduates who excel in the selection interviews for the BARC Training Schools’ programs and secure admission for M. Tech. at DGFS Institutes (IIT Bombay & IIT Madras) in the same academic year will receive a stipend and tuition fee to pursue an M. Tech. degree while retaining their employment in DAE.

OCES-2026 for the academic year 2026–2027 will be conducted at BARC Training Schools located in Mumbai and Hyderabad. Trainees designated as Trainee Scientific Officers (TSOs) must secure a minimum of 35% marks in each subject and at least 50% aggregate marks overall to successfully complete the training. On qualifying, TSOs will be appointed as Scientific Officer “C” in various units of the Department of Atomic Energy.

Scientific Officer "C" (SO/C) 26 Years Engineering Disciplines (ME, CH, MT, EE, EC, CS, IN, CE):
  • B.E. / B.Tech. / B.Sc. (Engineering) / 5-year Integrated M. Tech. with minimum 60% aggregate marks. Engineering disciplines are - Mechanical, Chemical, Metallurgical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Instrumentation & Civil Engineering.
  • Applicants, who meets above mentioned educational criteria and also willing to be considered on the basis of a GATE score, must have a valid GATE-2024 / 2025 / 2026 score in same GATE paper/subject as the qualifying degree discipline.
Science Disciplines (Physics, Chemistry, Biosciences, Geology, Geophysics):
  • M.Sc. / Integrated M.Sc. in relevant subject with minimum 60% aggregate marks.
  • For Physics/Chemistry/Biosciences: Minimum 60% marks required in B.Sc. as well (except for 5-year integrated M.Sc.).
  • Specific subject requirements at B.Sc. level (e.g., Mathematics/Physics) apply depending on the discipline.

Age Limit Relaxation (Age as on 01-08-2026):
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 29 Years.

  • Physically Challenged: Relaxation of 10 years.
  • Minimum age limit for all categories: 18 Years.
Salary Details:
  • Total monthly emoluments (with 3 increments) at Mumbai rate: Approximately ₹ 1,34,000/-.
  • Allowances: Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, Leave Travel Concession, Children's Education Allowance, Professional Update Allowance, and PRIS.
  • OCES TSOs will be paid stipend of ₹ 74,000 per month during period of their one year training programme and a one- time book allowance of ₹ 30,000.
  • DGFS fellows will be paid stipend of ₹ 74,000 per month for 2 years. Alos, tuition fee for M. Tech. will be reimbursed, along with one-time Contingency Grant of ₹ 60,000 per annum for 2 years to meet M. Tech. project related expenses. Additional funding up to ₹ 4,00,000 will be provided under BRNS fast track project scheme, to purchase equipment deemed necessary for completion of M. Tech. project.
Terms and Conditions:
  • Nature of Post: Permanent (Group-A Gazetted Officer of the Government of India).
  • Bond: Selected candidates must execute a Personal Indemnity Bond to serve DAE for at least 3 years after training.

Mode of Recruitment :

Selection to OCES/DGFS-2026 programme is a two-step process - Screening to short-list candidates, followed by interviews.

Screening for Selection Interviews

Screening for selection interviews will be conducted through two alternative options - Online Examination or GATE Score.

Online Examination Based Screening

Online examination will be held in March 2026 for eight engineering and five science disciplines in cities across India. Candidates must select their preferred examination center at the time of registration.

Questions of the online exam will be of objective type, with each correct answer carrying 3 marks and an incorrect answer carrying penalty of one mark (-1 mark). Test will have 100 questions, to be attempted in 120 minutes. Syllabus will be specific to the selected Science/Engineering discipline.

GATE Score Based Screening

Candidates who fulfill the prescribed eligibility criteria and opt for GATE-based screening will be shortlisted for selection interviews based on a valid GATE-2024, GATE-2025, and/or GATE-2026 score in the applicable GATE subject. The highest score obtained among GATE-2024, GATE-2025, and GATE-2026 will be considered for screening.

Notably, At the time of application, eligible candidates can choose any one or more than one of the above-mentioned screening options. Candidates are advised to maximize their chance of being screened in to the selection interview by availing both of the Screening options i.e., based on the GATE score as well as online examination score.

Selection Interviews

Selection interviews of short-listed candidates will be conducted during May-June 2026, in Mumbai (for all disciplines except Geology & Geophysics) and Hyderabad (for Geology & Geophysics). Short-listed candidates will be able to choose an interview slot, based on availability, in April 2026.

Final selection will be based solely on the performance in selection interview, subject to medical fitness. List of provisionally selected candidates will be published during June 2026.

Fee Structure :

Applicable application fee is to be paid online. Fee structure is -

  • General and OBC (Male candidates): ₹500/-
  • Dependents of those who died in the riots of 1984 (Male): ₹500/-
  • Persons domiciled in Kashmir Division of Jammu & Kashmir (Male): ₹500/-
  • Female / Transgender / SC/ST candidates: Exempted from payment of application fee
  • Dependents of Defence Personnel Killed in Action (DODPKIA): Exempted from payment of application fee
  • Physically challenged candidates (40% disability or more): Exempted from payment of application fee
