Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board (PSSSB) is inviting online applications for the direct recruitment of 197 Excise and Taxation Inspector posts in the State Government's Department of Excise and Taxation, under Advt 01/2026. This recruitment offers permanent Group-C positions involving important administrative duties, including monitoring excise duties and ensuring compliance with state taxation laws.

Candidates will be appointed in the pay scale of ₹35,400 as per the 7th Central Pay Commission. Eligible and interested candidates may apply online on or before 06-03-2026.

Other Eligibility Conditions
  • Candidates must have completed graduation by 06-03-2026.
  • Reservation is applicable only for Punjab residents.
  • Candidates must have passed Matriculation with Punjabi. A mandatory Punjabi language qualifying test (50% marks) will be conducted. Candidates from other states may apply under the unreserved category if they possess the required Punjabi language knowledge.

Mode of Recruitment :

The selection process for the post of Excise and Taxation Inspector will consist of a written examination followed by a counselling stage including document verification.

Written Examination

Selection will be based on an objective type (Multiple Choice Questions) written examination. The examination will be conducted in two parts as detailed below:

Examination Part Content and Nature Scoring and Conditions
Part-A Punjabi Language (Matriculation level) Candidates must secure at least 50% marks in this mandatory qualifying test. Marks obtained in this part will not be counted towards the final merit list.
Part-B Questions based on the required educational qualifications for the post The final merit list will be prepared only on the basis of marks obtained in Part-B. Each question will carry 1 mark, with a deduction of 1/4 (0.25) mark for every wrong answer.

In case of a tie in marks, the older candidate will be ranked higher. If the tie still persists, the candidate with a higher percentage in the required educational qualifications will be given preference, followed by higher marks in Matriculation. Based on the merit list of the written examination, candidates will be called for counselling and document verification.

Final Recommendation

After counselling, the names of candidates found fully eligible and successful will be recommended to the concerned department for appointment based on the final merit list and the available vacancies.

Fee Structure :

Applicable application fee is to be paid online. Fee structure is -

  • General Category / Freedom Fighters / Sports: 1000/-
  • SC / BC / Economically Weaker Section (EWS): 250/-
  • Ex-Servicemen & Dependent: 200/-
  • Physical Handicapped: 500/-
  • Candidates who applied under Advertisement No. 14/2024: Exempted from fee
