GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) 2026 results have been announced. Candidates who applied for GATE 2026 and appeared in the examination held in February 2026 can now check their result status. To check the result, candidates need to enter their Enrollment ID.

GATE-qualified candidates can seek admission to Master’s and Doctoral programs in top-end higher education institutions. GATE score is also widely accepted by several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for recruitment purposes.

GATE score obtained by the candidate will remain valid for a period of 3 years from date of announcement of result, this implies that GATE 2026 scores will be valid until Mar 19, 2029.

GATE 2026 (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) Posts Online Application

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has invited applications from eligible candidates for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2026). Candidates meeting the required eligibility conditions must submit their applications online by 28-09-2025. While applying, applicants should provide accurate personal and academic details. A valid personal email address and mobile number are compulsory for completing the registration process.

GATE is a national-level examination conducted in collaboration by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) situated in Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee. The examination is organized on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Mode of Recruitment :

The GATE examination is held in a Computer Based Test format at designated centers, ensuring a standardized and efficient evaluation process. Candidates are required to select their subject from a list of 30 available papers. The test is conducted entirely in the English language and spans a duration of three hours. Each paper is thoughtfully structured to test multiple cognitive abilities including conceptual understanding, application, analysis, and problem-solving.

Mode of Examination The examination will be conducted as a Computer Based Test (CBT), meaning candidates will take it on a computer at an authorized test center.
Language of Examination The test will be administered entirely in the English language.
Duration The exam duration is three hours, providing sufficient time to answer all questions.
Number of Papers (Subjects) There are a total of 30 papers available for selection, and candidates must choose the one corresponding to their field of study.
Sections The exam consists of two main sections: a compulsory General Aptitude section and a subject-specific section chosen by the candidate.
Types of Questions The paper includes Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) with one correct answer, Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) with multiple possible answers, and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions requiring a numerical response.
Test of Abilities Questions are designed to evaluate understanding, application of concepts, analytical skills, and the ability to synthesize ideas effectively.
Number of Questions Each paper contains a total of 65 questions, with 10 from the General Aptitude section and 55 from the chosen subject.
Distribution of Marks The total marks for each paper are 100, divided as 15 marks for General Aptitude, 13 marks for Engineering Mathematics, and 72 marks for the subject-specific questions. The XE paper includes 15 marks dedicated to Engineering Mathematics.
Marking Scheme and Negative Marking Each question carries either 1 or 2 marks. Incorrect answers to MCQs result in negative marking: one-third deduction for a 1-mark MCQ and two-thirds deduction for a 2-mark MCQ. MSQs and NAT questions have no negative or partial marking.

How to Apply :

GATE 2026 application process is completely online through GOAPS. Candidates must register, fill the form, upload required documents, and pay the fee online. Detailed steps are given below -

  • Register using full name (as per ID), email, and mobile number. Enrolment ID will be generated after registration, which must be noted down.
  • Login and fill application form with personal, address, and qualification details. Name and DOB must match the photo ID.
  • Select one or two test papers and choose three exam cities from the same zone.
  • Upload required documents: photograph, signature, valid photo ID, and category/PwD certificate (if applicable).
  • Pay application fee online via UPI, debit card, credit card, or net banking.
  • Preview application using “Save and View” and then submit. No changes will be allowed after final submission.
  • No need to send any printed application to IIT Guwahati (Exam conducting authority for GATE 2026) at this stage. Keep a personal copy for future reference.

Photo Requirements: Passport size (3.5 cm × 4.5 cm), white background, face covering 60–70%, size 5 KB–600 KB, resolution 200×260 to 530×690 px.

Signature Requirements: Black/blue ink, size 3 KB–300 KB, resolution 250×80 to 580×180 px.

Correction: Changes in category, paper, or exam city allowed till 06-11-2025 (additional fee applicable).
