Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) has released the notification for the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) 2026, a qualifying examination for teaching positions at Primary (Classes 1–5) and Upper Primary (Classes 6–8) levels in the state. The last date to submit the online application form is 26-04-2026. Applicants are advised to carefully verify their eligibility criteria before applying.

UPTET serves as a mandatory eligibility test for recruitment of teachers in government and recognized schools across Uttar Pradesh. The examination evaluates candidates’ teaching aptitude, subject knowledge, and understanding of pedagogical principles as per prescribed standards.

  • Moallim-e-Urdu degree holders from Aligarh Muslim University obtained before 11.08.1997 (For Urdu Teacher positions).
  • Intermediate (10+2) with at least 50% marks and a four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) (Final year appearing or passed).
Upper Primary Teacher (Class 6 to 8) - UPTET Paper II
  • Graduation and a two-year D.El.Ed. (B.T.C.) from an NCTE-recognized institution (Final year appearing or passed).
  • Graduation or Post-Graduation with at least 50% marks and a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from an NCTE-recognized institution (Final year appearing or passed).
  • Graduation or Post-Graduation with at least 45% marks and a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in accordance with NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations.
  • Graduation or Post-Graduation with at least 50% marks and a B.Ed. (Special Education) from an NCTE/RCI-recognized institution (Final year appearing or passed).
  • Intermediate (10+2) with at least 50% marks and a four-year B.A.Ed. / B.A.B.Ed. from an NCTE/UGC-recognized institution (Final year appearing or passed).
  • Intermediate (10+2) with at least 50% marks and a four-year B.Sc.Ed. / B.Sc.B.Ed. from an NCTE/UGC-recognized institution (Final year appearing or passed).
  • Intermediate (10+2) with at least 50% marks and a four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) (Final year appearing or passed).

  • Notes
    • Candidates appearing in the final year of the required professional qualification (D.El.Ed, B.Ed, B.El.Ed, etc.) are eligible to apply. However, their UPTET certificate will only be valid after successfully passing the respective professional exam.
    • Reservation benefits and relaxations are only applicable to candidates who are original residents (domicile holders) of Uttar Pradesh.
    • A candidate can apply for both Primary (Paper I) and Upper Primary (Paper II) levels through a single online application form if they meet the eligibility criteria for both.
    • UPTET certificate is valid for lifetime from the date of result declaration.

Mode of Recruitment :

The selection will be based on a written test consisting of multiple-choice questions (MCQs), where each question will carry 1 mark. There will be no negative marking. The test duration will be 150 minutes.

Qualifying Marks

Candidates from the General category will be required to score a minimum of 60% (90 out of 150 marks) to qualify. Candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, EWS, Freedom Fighter Dependents, Ex-Servicemen, and PwD categories will be required to score a minimum of 55% (82 out of 150 marks).

Eligibility for Appointment after Qualifying UPTET

  • All schools run by the State Government
  • Schools run by Local Bodies and recognized by the State Government / Basic Education Board / Secondary Education Board (Only for Upper Primary Level)
  • Schools receiving aid from the State Government
  • Schools affiliated with any recognized Education Board and having No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the State Government

Fee Structure :

Applicable application fee is to be paid online. Fee structure is -

  • General / OBC Category: ₹1000
  • SC / ST Category: ₹500
  • PwD Category: ₹300
  • Notably, if a candidate wishes to apply for both papers, the fee must be paid separately.

How to Apply :

  • OTR Registration & Profile Creation:
    • Access the portal and select "New Candidate" to start registration.
    • Enter personal details exactly as per your 10th marksheet (name, parents' names, date of birth).
    • Select an identity proof (Aadhaar, Driving License, or PAN) and complete verification.
    • Perform live photo identity verification via selfie or QR code scan.
    • Verify mobile number and email using 6-digit OTP.
    • Create a secure password and choose a security question.
    • Log in and fill additional details like nationality, marital status, and identification marks.
    • Select reservation category (General/OBC/SC/ST/EWS) and provide certificate details if applicable.
    • Enter permanent and correspondence address details.
    • Add academic qualifications from 10th onwards including graduation and training details.
    • Provide twin sibling details if applicable.
    • Upload photograph (30KB–300KB) and signature (10KB–200KB) in JPG/PNG format.
    • Upload Photo ID proof and academic marksheets in PDF format (50KB–500KB).
    • Write the declaration on plain paper, scan, and upload in JPG/PNG format.
    • Review OTR Profile Preview, accept declaration, and complete profile.
  • Application Form Filling:
    • Go to "Exams" tab and click "Apply Now" for UPTET 2026.
    • Select exam level (Paper-I, Paper-II, or both) and qualification status. If you select Paper-II or Both, choosing a Subject Group for Upper Primary is required.
    • Review final application and proceed to payment.
    • Pay application fee through SBI/ICICI gateway via Net Banking, Card, or UPI.
    • Download and print the final submitted application form for future reference.
    • No need to send a printed application to UPESSC at this stage.
  • Correction :
    • If candidates wish to make any modifications to their application form after submission, they may do so (excluding changes to mobile number and email ID) upto 01-05-2026, by using the Edit Application Form option.
    • After making required modifications, candidates must enter the OTP received on their registered mobile number or email ID to proceed with submission and review and accept the declaration again before finalizing the corrected application.
    • Once the application has been modified and submitted, no further changes will be permitted.
