Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Mumbai (TIFR) is inviting applications for 7 temporary apprenticeship positions of Tradesman Trainees under the Apprentices Act, 1961. The walk-in selection is scheduled to be held on 23-03-2026 at 9:30 AM.

The engagement is for apprenticeship training on a stipend basis in trades such as Carpenter, Electrician, Fitter, Welder and Painter. Selected candidates will undergo practical training related to the respective trade and assist in technical workshop and maintenance activities within the institute. The training offers several benefits, including hands-on experience in relevant fields, which enhances future employment prospects.

ITI i.e. National Trade Certificate (NTC) with minimum 60% aggregate marks awarded by National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) in the trade of Carpenter. Rs. 18,500 per month stipend
Electrician 2 ITI i.e. National Trade Certificate (NTC) with minimum 60% aggregate marks awarded by National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) in the trade of Electrical.
Fitter 1 ITI i.e. National Trade Certificate (NTC) with minimum 60% aggregate marks awarded by National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) in the trade of Fitter.
Welder (G&E) 1 ITI i.e. National Trade Certificate (NTC) with minimum 60% aggregate marks awarded by National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) in the trade of Welder (G&E).
Painter 1 ITI i.e. National Trade Certificate (NTC) with minimum 60% aggregate marks awarded by National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) in the trade of Painter.
Other Eligibility Conditions
  • Only fresh candidates will be considered for engagement.
  • Candidates who have already completed apprenticeship training earlier are not eligible.
  • Applicants must possess ITI certificate in the same designated trade for which they apply.
  • Candidates are required to register on the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme portal (NAPS Portal - https://www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in/) before appearing for the walk-in selection.

Selection Mode:

Selection will be on the basis of Academics and performance in Written Test, which will carry 50 marks. The test will assess candidates on technical and general aptitude related areas.

Final Merit Preparation

The final merit will be prepared based on 60% weightage of aggregate marks obtained in the designated trade(s) of all semesters and 40% weightage of marks obtained in the written test. Candidates scoring 60% or above in the final merit will be considered for selection and included in the merit list.

How to Apply :

To apply for the apprenticeship training, candidates need to complete registration and submit the online application first and then appear for the walk-in selection with the required documents.
  1. Register on the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS Portal) and complete the registration process before appearing for the walk-in selection.
  2. Keep the confirmation email received after registration on the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS Portal), as it will be required during the selection process.
  3. Submit the online application through the TIFR recruitment system before appearing for the walk-in selection.
  4. Ensure that all details entered in the application such as name, date of birth, father’s or mother’s name, email ID and mobile number are correct and retain a copy of the application for record.
  5. Take a printout of the submitted online application form and paste a recent passport size photograph on it.
  6. Appear for the walk-in selection on 23-03-2026 at 09:30 AM at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, 1 Homi Bhabha Road, Navy Nagar, Colaba, Mumbai 400005.
  7. Bring the following documents (original and photocopies) at the time of walk-in selection:
    • Printout of the online application form with recent passport size photograph.
    • Copy of National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS Portal) registration confirmation email.
    • Identity proof such as Aadhaar Card, Election Card, PAN Card, Passport or Driving License.
    • Date of birth certificate.
    • All educational qualification certificates.
    • Designated trade mark sheet and National Trade Certificate issued by NCVT.
    • Character certificates from two respectable persons.
  8. The printed application form is not required to be sent by post to Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in advance. However, one printed copy may be kept for future reference.
