2 Research Associate I, Student Trainee vacancies at National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR)

National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR) has scheduled a walk-in interview on 27-03-2026 for recruitment to 2 posts of Research Associate I, Student Trainee.

Post NameResearch Associate I, Student Trainee
Project NameExploring non-host plant defense mechanisms to combat dry root rot in Chickpeas under Drought Stress (ANRF-EMEQ)
Project DescriptionThis ANRF-EMEQ (Anusandhan National Research Foundation - Expansion and Equity) project investigates Non-Host Resistance (NHR)—the innate immunity that makes certain plant species completely immune to specific pathogens. The goal is to identify defense genes from non-host plants and transfer that resistance to Chickpeas to combat Dry Root Rot (DRR), which is particularly lethal during drought. The research is highly computational, integrating Multi-omics (Transcriptomics) with Deep Learning to predict gene functions and visualize disease progression.
Duration
  • Research Associate-I – one year initially
  • Student Trainee – two months

1 Senior Research Fellow vacancy at National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR)

A walk-in interview has been scheduled by National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR) on 27-03-2026 to fill 1 post of Senior Research Fellow.

Post NameSenior Research Fellow
Project NameRhizospheric engineering using a microbial consortium for chickpea protection against dry root rot
Project DescriptionThis Sree PVF-funded project addresses the devastating impact of Dry Root Rot (DRR), caused by Macrophomina phaseolina, which worsens under drought conditions. The research focuses on Rhizospheric Engineering—the strategic manipulation of the soil environment surrounding the roots. By developing a specialized microbial consortium (beneficial bacteria and fungi), the project aims to prime the plant’s immune system and improve water-use efficiency. The scope is highly translational, moving from lab-scale consortium development to mass production and multi-location field trials across Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
