| Project Description | This NIBMG-funded project addresses a critical health challenge in North India by examining the biological drivers of growth failure in infants. The research focuses on preterm stunted infants at 6 months of age, exploring the complex interaction between their gut microbiome and host epigenomic profiles. By studying children from low to mid socioeconomic neighborhoods, the project aims to understand how environmental factors and microbial colonization influence gene expression related to growth and development. This study is vital for identifying biological markers of stunting, which could lead to targeted nutritional or therapeutic interventions to improve long-term health outcomes for vulnerable infants. |
