Project NameMolecular Mechanisms of Nutritional Ketosis and Its Mimetics in Modulating Inflammaging and Dementia (NABI-Core)
Project DescriptionThis NABI-Core project, situated at the National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), investigates the therapeutic potential of the ketogenic metabolic state in slowing neurodegeneration. The research focuses on Nutritional Ketosis—a metabolic shift where the body utilizes ketone bodies instead of glucose—and its Mimetics (compounds that simulate the effects of a ketogenic diet without strict carbohydrate restriction). By exploring the molecular pathways of Inflammaging (chronic, low-grade inflammation associated with aging), the project aims to determine how ketone bodies modulate microglial activation and oxidative stress to arrest the progression of Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

National Agri Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) will conduct a walk-in interview on 27-03-2026 to fill 1 post of Junior Research Fellow.

Post NameJunior Research Fellow
Project NameUnravelling the molecular roles of Rice Seed-expressed bZIP (RISBZs) Transcription Factors using genome editing approach (GAP-66)
Project DescriptionThis BRIC-NABI project, under the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), delves into the genetic regulation of seed development and nutritional quality in rice. bZIP (Basic Leucine Zipper) transcription factors are "master switches" that control the expression of genes involved in seed storage protein synthesis, starch accumulation, and stress signaling. By utilizing CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing, the research aims to "knock out" or "fine-tune" specific RISBZs to observe their impact on grain filling and nutrient density. This work is fundamental to engineering "biofortified" rice with improved cooking quality and higher protein content.
DurationUp to 04 January 2027

Project NameDevelopment of High-Efficiency Transformation Protocols and Genome Editing for Accelerated Improvement of Barnyard Millet (GAP-102)
Project DescriptionThis BRIC-NABI project, under the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), addresses the primary bottleneck in the genetic improvement of "orphan" crops: the lack of robust delivery systems for genetic cargo. While traditional breeding is slow, this research focuses on establishing High-Efficiency Transformation Protocols (using Agrobacterium or Biolistics) to facilitate Genome Editing (CRISPR-Cas9). The goal is to create a "Plug-and-Play" platform for Barnyard Millet, allowing researchers to precisely knock out genes related to anti-nutritional factors or knock in traits for drought resilience and grain quality.
Duration1 year (with possible extension based on performance)
Vacancy1
QualificationPh.D. in Plant Biotechnology / Molecular Biology / Plant Sciences / Life Sciences or related discipline with at least two peer-reviewed international publications in Science Citation indexed (SCI) journal.

5 Research Associate, Project Associate and Various vacancies at National Agri Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI)

National Agri Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) will hold a walk-in interview on 27-03-2026 to fill 5 posts of Research Associate, Project Associate and Various.

Post NameResearch Associate, Project Associate and Various
Project NameGenomics-assisted improvement of Barnyard Millet for enhanced yield and processing efficiency (GAP102)
Project DescriptionThis BRIC-NABI (National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute) project, funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), addresses global food security by transforming Barnyard Millet into a mainstream "climate-smart" crop. Despite being nutrient-dense and resilient to extreme weather, barnyard millet suffers from low yields and difficult processing due to its tough husk. The research utilizes Genomics-Assisted Breeding (GAB)—including Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) and Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS)—to identify genetic markers for high yield, grain size, and "easy-to-dehusk" traits, aiming to create superior varieties for the changing climate.
Duration1 year (with possible extension based on performance)
