Primarily observed in hydrogenated amorphous silicon and related inorganic thin films, SWE causes a significant drop in photoconductivity and conversion efficiency upon prolonged exposure to sunlight. The research focuses on developing mitigation strategies—such as atomic-level doping, hydrogen dilution, or the use of nanocrystalline silicon buffers—to stabilize the material's atomic network and prevent the light-induced creation of "dangling bond" defects. |
