| Project Description | This "One Health" project investigates the circulation of Avian Influenza Viruses (AIV) across the interconnected boundaries of wildlife, domestic animals, and humans. By sampling birds, livestock, and pets, the study aims to map viral diversity and identify "hotspots" for potential zoonotic spillover. A critical component involves using mammalian models (such as ferrets or mice) to assess the risk of these viruses adapting for human-to-human transmission, thereby strengthening pandemic preparedness. It is funded by the ICMR National One Health Mission (NOHM). |
