| Project Description | This SERB-sponsored project at IACS Kolkata explores the emerging field of Chalcogen Bonding (ChB) in supramolecular chemistry. Unlike traditional hydrogen bonding, this research utilizes the non-covalent interactions of chalcogen atoms (like Sulfur, Selenium, or Tellurium) to design highly specific molecular receptors. These receptors are engineered to recognize, sense, and extract harmful anions and complex ion-pairs from environmental or industrial sources. The study focuses on the precision of "Sigma-hole" interactions to create more efficient chemical sensors and extraction technologies. |
