| Project Description | This project is an advanced breeding initiative designed to accelerate the development of "climate-smart" wheat varieties that can withstand heat and drought stress. By combining Rapid Generation Advancement (RGA)—often called speed breeding—with Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS), the research identifies specific genetic markers linked to resilience. These markers are used in Genomic Selection models to predict the performance of new wheat lines before they are even planted in the field, significantly shortening the breeding cycle. The project is funded by the Agharkar Research Institute (ARI), Pune, under the Department of Science and Technology (DST). |
