1. Sep 2 is observed as World Coconut Day Globally, declared by UN-ESCAP, to commemorate foundation day of the International Coconut Community (ICC).
2. Ministry of Civil Aviation launched Hub & Spoke International Flight Operations from Ahmedabad (Gujarat), making it the third airport in India to join the framework after Varanasi and Amritsar.
  1. Under the framework, international passengers complete check-in, immigration and customs formalities at the originating spoke airport. At the hub airport, they can directly board their onward international flight without repeating these procedures, while baggage is transferred to the final destination.
  2. Hub & Spoke operations were first launched from Varanasi on 25 June 2026, followed by Amritsar on 28 July 2026 and now Ahmedabad. The initiative aims to build a seamless international aviation network through Delhi as the hub, and will be extended to 22 more airports in this phase.
3. Govt constituted a 31-member joint committee of Parliament on Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill 2026, to be headed by Lok Sabha MP Sanjay Jaiswal.
  1. The bill aims to further amend Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act 2010, to make use of foreign contributions more transparent and accountable.
4. Indian Navy commissioned INS Nipun into service as the second Nistar-class Diving Support Vessel, designed for deep-sea diving and submarine rescue operations.
  1. The first vessel of the class, INS Nistar, was commissioned in July 2025. Both vessels were built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL).
5. National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) launched RAINCHNNAI, a rainfall futures contract for Chennai and surrounding areas, to help participants hedge risks arising from rainfall variability.
  1. The contract covers September to December and carries a lot multiplier of ₹50 per mm, with cash settlement. The Northeast Monsoon contributes nearly 70% of Chennai’s annual rainfall.
  2. Chennai became the second location in India to have rainfall weather derivatives, after Mumbai, where NCDEX launched its first such contract in May 2026.
  3. NCDEX also entered into a five-year strategic partnership with the Cotton Association of India (CAI) to strengthen cotton derivatives, price discovery and risk management.

India's GDP Growth data for Q1 2026-27 (Apr-June 2027) -

Real GDP (GDP at Constant Prices) is estimated at ₹81.36 lakh crore in Q1 FY 2026-27, showing growth of 7.8%.
Nominal GDP ( GDP at Current Prices) is estimated at ₹88.27 lakh crore in Q1 FY 2026-27, showing growth of 10.3%.

1. The annual revised estimates reflect the use of new price and production indices with base year 2022-23, including new Output Producer Price Index (PPI) and Banking Services Price Index (BkSPI).
  1. Earlier in February 2026, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) had introduced a new GDP series with 2022-23 as base year, replacing the earlier 2011-12 base-year series.
2. Revised GDP estimates adopt a double deflation methodology for various industries under the manufacturing sector (separately deflating gross output and intermediate consumption), which led to unusual outcomes like negative implicit deflators in specific sectors (e.g., manufacturing recording a -1.5% inflation in the GVA implicit deflator for Q1 2026–27).

1. India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) launched DakPay Sound Box for merchants on its Foundation Day (September 1) to simplify and strengthen everyday digital payment acceptance. IPPB also launched its Digital Insurance Technology Platform and Digital Mutual Fund Platform.
2. Govt reduced stock holding limit for sugar dealers from 4000 quintals to 2000 quintals effective Between Sep 15 - Nov 30 this year, to curb hoarding and speculative trading, protect consumer interest by ensuring adequate availability and price stability.
  1. However, stock holding limit shall remain at 4000 quintals for Kolkata and its extended metropolitan areas considering the specific market requirements of the region.
India's Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections in August 2026 stood at 1.99 Lakh Crore rupees, marking a 14.8% year-on-year increase from August 2025. GST collections in previous 6 months -

Japan Credit Rating Agency (JCR) upgraded India’s Long-Term Foreign Currency and Local Currency Issuer Ratings by one notch from BBB+ to A-, while maintaining the Stable Outlook. JCR has also raised India’s country ceiling by one notch to A.

Ramon Magsaysay Awards 2026 (68th edition) Winners are Bo Kyi (Myanmar), Runa Khan (Bangladesh) & Tommy Koh (Singapore).
1. Also called Nobel Peace Prize of Asia, Ramon Magsaysay Award is an annual award established to perpetuate former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay's example of integrity in governance, courageous service to people, and pragmatic idealism within a democratic society.
2. Prize was established in April 1957 by trustees of Rockefeller Brothers Fund based in New York City,with concurrence of Philippine government. Each awardee receives a cash prize of USD 50,000.

1. International Cricket Council (ICC) has named India as the host of inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy 2027. The six-team tournament was earlier scheduled to be hosted by Sri Lanka. Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka will participate in the tournament.
2. Noted Argentine footballer Lionel Messi announced his retirement from international football. His international career included a FIFA World Cup triumph (2022) and two Copa América titles.
