      1. She returned to power soon after she she had resigned, due to a budget defeat that made a coalition partner quit. However, Magdalena Andersson got elected again.
    4. Argentinian Footballer Lionel Messi won men’s Ballon d’Or award 2021, recognizing Best Male footballer globally, given by France Football. It was his record seventh time winning this title. Other awards on the occasion -

        1. It would get geothermal power from a volcano. Bitcoin City will not levy any taxes except for value-added tax (VAT).
      15. Venezuela has set a new Guinness World Record for largest orchestra with 8,573 musicians playing together for more than five minutes. It was played by country’s National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras, known as “El Sistema”.
      16. Eevamped Rezang La War memorial in Ladakh has been inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, as tribute to Indian soldiers who fought a battle there in 1962, against China.
      17. Pakistan Parliament passed International Court of Justice (Review and Re-consideration) Bill 2020 , that will give Indian National Kulbhushan Jadhav the right to appeal against his conviction. Bill seeks to provide a further right of review and reconsideration in giving effect to judgement of International Court of Justice.
      18. India’s 1st Food Museum Launched by Food Corporation of India, at Thanjavur (Tamil Nadu). It aims to digitally exhibit foodgrain production scenario in India and across globe also to also highlight challenges with regards to Food Storage.

    16. Australia officially became part of new Nuclear Powered Submarine defence alliance named AUKUS, with UK and US, after signing a deal in Canberra (Australia).
      1. Under AUKUS deal, Australia will be provided with 8 nuclear-powered submarines capable of stealthy and long-range missions.
      2. It is first agreement on technology signed by three countries after formation of the defence alliance AUKUS (Australia-UK-US).
    17. RBI Internal Working Group on digital lending including lending through online platforms and mobile apps, submitted its report, with Jayant Kumar Dash as Chairman.
      1. Thrust of the report has been on enhancing customer protection and making digital lending ecosystem safe while encouraging innovation.
    18. RBI Internal Working Group to review extant guidelines on ownership and corporate structure for Indian private sector banks, submitted its report. The Internal Working Group (IWG) made 33 recommendations to RBI, 21 of which have beeen accepted. Including -
      1. Initial lock-in requirements will continue as minimum of 40 % of paid-up voting equity share capital of the bank for the first five years.
      2. Cap on promoters’ stake in long run of 15 years has been raised from 15 % to 26 % of paid-up voting equity share capital of the bank.
      3. Minimum initial capital requirement for licensing new banks has been increased -
        1. Universal Banks - Increased to 1000 crore (from 500 crores).
        2. SFBs - Increased to 300 crores (from 200 crores).
        3. For UCBs transiting to SFBs - Increased to 150 crores (from present 100 crores), which has to be increased to 300 crores in 5 years (from present 200 crores).

    1. Nov 26 is observed as National Milk Day In India, to commemorate birth anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien, father of India’s White Revolution.
      1. First National Milk Day was celebrated on 26 November 2014, marked by Indian Dairy Association (IDA).
      2. Dr. Kurien is also famous for his ‘Operation Flood’, world’s largest agricultural development program. He established 30 institutions which are run by various farmers and workers and played a key role in establishment and success of Amul brand.
      3. India is 2nd largest Milk producer in world, after US.
    2. Nov 26 is observed as Constitution Day in India (Samvidhan Divas). It commemorates adoption of the Constitution of India on 26 November 1949 by Indian Constituent Assembly. However, the Indian Constitution came into force on 26 January 1950.
      1. Government declared observing 26 November as Constitution Day in 2015, as 2015 represented 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar, who had chaired the drafting committee of Constituent Assembly. Previously, Nov 26 was celebrated as National Law Day.
    3. Book Resolved: Uniting Nations in a Divided World, as an autobiography of Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon (South Korea), has been released.     1. PM Narendra Modi laid Foundation Stone of Noida International Airport at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh.
      1. It will be 5th international airport in Uttar Pradesh, and 2nd in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR).
      2. Uttar Pradesh has now become state with highest number of international airports in India. Other 4 are at Lucknow, Varanasi, Kushinagar and Ayodhya.
      3. The airport has been developed by Zurich Airport International AG (Switzerland), over 1330 acres of land, expected to be operational by 2024.
      4. Once operational, it will be largest airport in India and Asia, and first net-zero emissions airport in India, with capacity to serve 1.2 crore passengers a year.

He was known for his leadership in 1671 Battle of Saraighat, when he drove away Mughal forces under command of Ram Singh, to take over kingdom.
    2. Indian Squash Player Saurav Ghosal became first Indian to win Malaysian Open Championships, after defeating Miguel Rodriguez (Colombia) in men’s singles final.

    4. American publishing company Merriam-Webster chosen word vaccine as its 2021 Word of the Year.

    5. As per NITI Aayog's first Multi-dimensional Poverty Index (MPI) -
      1. Bihar has been adjudged as state with highest level of multidimensional poverty, followed by Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Meghalaya.
      2. States with Least Multi-dimensional Poverty - Kerala, Goa, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu and Punjab.
    6. Hyderabad-based Indian Space Tech Startup Skyroot Aerospace successfully test-fired Dhawan-1, India’s first privately developed fully cryogenic rocket engine. This will power the upper stages of its upcoming Vikram-2 orbital launch vehicle.
    7. Army Chief MM Naravane released book Bangladesh Liberation @ 50 years: ‘Bijoy’ with Synergy, India-Pakistan war 1971, as a compilation of personal accounts of the war by veterans from India and Pakistan.
    8. Indian Railways is constructing tallest pier railway bridge of world in Manipur, as part of Jiribam-Imphal railway line, which is part of a new broad gauge line being constructed to connect Manipu with rest of country.
      1. About -
        1. Bridge is being built at a height of 141 metres, with length 703 metres. Once completed, it will enable passengers to cover 111 km of distance in 2-2.5 hrs.
      2. Currently, tallest pier bridge record is held by 139-metre high Mala-Rijeka viaduct built at Montenegro in Europe.
    9. Union Minister Jitendra Singh inaugurated Project SWADESH, as first of its kind large-scale multimodal neuroimaging database designed specifically for Indian population, developed by DBT-National Brain Research Centre (DBT-NBRC).
    10. Madhya Pradesh Cabinet approved creating cyber tehsils in state, making MP become first Indian state to have a cyber tehsil.
      1. Cyber Tehsil will make mutation process easy and people from anywhere in state can avail of its benefits.
      2. With this, process of conversion will become convenient in cases of undisputed land.
    11. Military exercise Dakshin Shakti held in deserts of Jaisalmer, jointly by Indian Army and Air Force.
    12. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar represented India at 20th Meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government (CHG), hosted in Nur-Sultan in virtual format under chairmanship of Kazakhstan.
      1. SCO was founded in 2001 by Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India and Pakistan became its permanent members in 2017.
    13. As per findings of fifth round of National Family and Health Survey (NFHS) released by health ministry -
      1. India's sex ratio has improved to 1020, compared to 1000 in NFHS-3(2005-06) and 991 in NFHS-4 (2015-16).
      2. This is the first time, in any NFHS or Census, that India's sex ratio has grown above 1000.
    14. Labour ministry released new series of wage rate index (WRI) with the base year being 2016.
      1. Govt periodically revises base year of WRI for key economic indicators in order to provide a clear picture of economic changes and record wage pattern of workers.
      2. New series of WRI with base 2016=100 will replace the old series with base 1963-65.
      3. Total 37 industries have been covered in new WRI basket (2016=100),as against 21 industries in 1963-65=100 series.
      4. New WRI Series with base 2016=100 would be compiled twice a year on a point-to-point half-yearly basis, as on 1st January and 1st July of every year.
    15. Cabinet Approvals (Nov 24, 2021) -
      1. General -
        1. Approved extension for Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY-Phase V) for period of 4 months (December 2021 to March 2022), to provide 5 kg per person per month free of cost ration for all beneficiaries under National Food Security Act (NFSA).
          1. Phase-I and Phase-II were operational from April to June, 2020 and July to November, 2020 respectively.
          2. Phase-III was operational from May to June, 2021.
          3. Phase-IV is currently operational for July-November, 2021 months.
          4. Phase V will entail estimated additional food subsidy of 53344 Crores, with total outgo in terms of food-grains to be 163 LMT.
        2. Approved formation of Company (Special Purpose Vehicle) to privatize electricity distribution business in UT of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (DNH&DD), sale of Equity Shares of newly formed Company to highest bidder and formation of Trust(s) for serving employees’ liabilities.
          1. It will enable better services to over 1.45 lakh consumers of DNH&DD, including operational improvements and functional efficiencies in distribution.
      2. CCEA -
        1. Approved continuation of umbrella scheme Atmosphere & Climate Research-Modelling Observing Systems & Services (ACROSS), along with its eight sub-schemes, to next finance cycle of five years i.e. 2021-2026, at estimated cost 2135 crores.
          1. ACROSS scheme pertains to atmospheric science programs of Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) and addresses different aspects of weather and climate services.
          2. Each of these aspects is incorporated as eight sub-schemes under the umbrella scheme "ACROSS" and is implemented in an integrated manner through mentioned institutes -
            1. India Meteorological Department (IMD)
            2. National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF)

        2. Approved continuation of umbrella scheme Ocean Services, Modelling, Application, Resources and Technology (O-SMART) of Ministry of Earth Sciences, for implementation during period 2021-26, at overall cost 2177 crores.
          1. The scheme encompasses seven sub-schemes namely Ocean Technology, Ocean Modelling and Advisory Services (OMAS), Ocean Observation Network (OON), Ocean Non-Living Resources, Marine Living Resources and Ecology (MLRE), Coastal Research and Operation and Maintenance of Research Vessels.
          2. O-SMART scheme encompassing oceanographic research activities is being implemented with objectives for providing forecast and services based on the continuous observation of our oceans, development of technologies and exploratory surveys for sustainable harnessing of our oceanic resources (both living and non-living) and promotion of front-ranking research in ocean sciences.
        3. Approved stipendiary support of 3054 crores to apprentices who undergo apprenticeship training under National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) of Ministry of Education, for period 2021-22 to 2025-26.
          1. Approximately 9 lakhs apprentices will be trained by industry and commercial organisations.
          2. Apprentices who have completed graduate / diploma programme in Engineering, Humanities, Science and Commerce will be given stipend of 9000 and 8000 per monthrespectively.
          3. For this purpose, Govt has approved expenditure over 3000 crore during next five years, which is about 4.5 times expenditure made during previous 5 years.

          1. Project envisages to provide 4G based mobile services in the 7,287 uncovered villages of 44 Aspirational Districts across given State, with cost 6466 crores, including operational expenses for 5 years.
          2. Project would be funded by Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), to be completed within 18 months.
      2. CCEA -
        1. Approved highest price bid of Nandal Finance and Leasing Pvt Ltd,  for sale of 100% equity shareholding of Govt in Central Electronics Ltd, for 210 Crores INR.
        2. Approved proposals of Department of Rural Development (Ministry of Rural Development) for continuation of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-I and II upto September 2022, for completion of balance road and bridge works.
          1. CCEA also approved continuation of Road Connectivity Project for Left Wing Extremism Affected Areas (RCPLWEA) upto March 2023.
          2. Govt started PMGSY-I to provide connectivity to unconnected habitations of population size 500+ in plain areas and 250+ in North-East and Himalayan states. In selected left wing extremism blocks, habitations of 100+ population were also to be provided connectivity.
            1. Only 2432 habitations are balance out of total 184444 habitations. 20950 Km road length and 1974 bridges are balance for completion out of total sanctioned  645627 Km road length and 7523 bridges. Thus, these works will now get completed.
          3. Under PMGSY-II, upgradation of 50000 Km rural road network was envisaged. Total 49885 Km road length and 765 LSBs have been sanctioned, of which only 4240 Km road length and 254 bridges are balance. Thus, these works will now get completed.
          4. Road Connectivity Project of Left Wing Extremism affected Areas (RCPLWEA) was started in 2016 to improve connectivity in 44 LWE affected districts in 9 states. 5714 Km road length 358 bridge works are balance for completion and another 1887 Km road length and 40 bridges are being sanctioned.
          5. Government launched PMGSY-III in 2019 for consolidation of 125000 Km road length by March 2025. Around 72000 Km road length has so far been sanctioned under PMGSY-III, out of which, 17750 km has been completed.
          6. Total of 112419 crores, including state share is likely to be incurred from 2021-22 to 2024-25 for completion of all ongoing interventions of PMGSY.

    1. PM Narendra Modi launched two innovative customer-centric initiatives of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) -
      1. RBI Retail Direct Scheme -
        1. It was announced in February 2021, to improve access to government securities for retail investors.
        2. It offers investors a new avenue to directly invest in government securities.
        3. Retail investors will also have facility to open and maintain ‘Retail Direct Gilt Account’ with RBI, free of cost.
        4. Investors will have access to bidding in primary auctions along with central bank’s trading platform for government securities, called Negotiated Dealing System-Order Matching Segment.
      2. Reserve Bank Integrated Ombudsman Scheme -
        1. It aims to further improve grievance redress mechanism for resolving customer complaints against entities regulated by RBI.
        2. Central theme of the scheme is based on ‘One Nation-One Ombudsman’ with one portal, one email and one address for customers to lodge their complaints.

      2. Result of COP26 was Glasgow Climate Pact, as first climate agreement explicitly planning to reduce unabated coal usage. Owing to late interventions from India and China, A pledge to "phase out" coal was changed to "phase down" late in negotiation. Pledges -
        1. Number of countries pledged to reach net-zero emissions passed 140, including 90% of current global greenhouse gas emissions.

        1. IRIS will provide technical support on multifaceted issues posed by infrastructure systems and promote disaster and climate resilience of infrastructure assets in SIDS (Small Island Developing States), and share latest knowledge and learnings targeted to specific infrastructure sectors.
        2. IRIS will work with SIDS to identify opportunities for collaborations to strengthen infrastructure systems for resilient development in these countries.
        3. IRIS, as part of India-UK Coalition for Disaster Resilient infrastructure (CDRI), that would focus on building capacity, especially in small island developing states.
        4. IRIS has been launched with initial funding of $10 million from Australia, India and UK.
      7. As a boost to accelerate global adoption of solar energy, United States of America (USA) became 101st member of India-led International Solar Alliance (ISA).
      8. As per global Climate Change Performance Index 2022, released by Germanwatch on side-lines of COP26 -

    5. NITI Aayog (India) and World Bank announced to Jointly facilitate a program for faster and easier financing of electric vehicles (EV), by setting up a $300-million ‘first loss risk sharing instrument’, with State Bank of India (SBI) as program manager.
      1. This facility would seek to garner around $1.5 billion in financing for EVs.
      2. This instrument will act as a hedging mechanism, for banks to access in case of defaults of loans on purchase of EVs, and is expected to bring down the cost of financing for EVs by 10-12%.
