    2. PM Narendra Modi launched several notable projects during culmination of Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya – Power @2047 event.
      1. Launched Ministry of Power’s flagship Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, aimed at improving operational efficiencies and financial sustainability of Distribution Companies, With outlay of 303758 crores over 5 years (FY 2021-22 to 2025-26).
        1. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to DISCOMs for modernization and strengthening of distribution infrastructure, aiming at improvement of the reliability and quality of supply to end consumers.
      2. Launched national Rooftop solar portal, which will enable online tracking of installation of rooftop solar plants. Estimated capacity under the national solar rooftop program is 4000 MW.
      3. Dedicated and laid foundation stone of various green energy projects of NTPC worth over Rs 5200 crores.
        1. Launched 100 MW Ramagundam Floating Solar Project in Telangana and 92 MW Kayamkulam Floating Solar Project in Kerala.
        2. Laid foundation stone of 735 MW Nokh Solar Project in Rajasthan, Green Hydrogen Mobility Project in Leh and Kawas Green Hydrogen Blending with Natural Gas project in Gujarat.

    1. PM Narendra Modi visited Gujarat & Tamil Nadu -
      1. Gujarat -
        1. Visited Sabar Dairy and inaugurate and laid foundation stones of multiple projects worth more over 1000 crores.
          1. Sabar Dairy is a part of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which operates milk products brand Amul.
        2. Visited Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) and launched several initiatives -
          1. Laid foundation stone of IFSCA (International Financial Services Centres Authority) Headquarters building.
          2. Launched India International Bullion Exchange (IIBX), Indias first International Bullion Exchange in GIFT-IFSC. IIBX will facilitate efficient price discovery with assurance of responsible sourcing and quality, apart from giving impetus to financialisation of gold in India.
          3. Launched NSE IFSC-SGX Connect. Under this, all orders on NIFTY derivatives placed by members of Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX) will be routed to and matched on NSE-IFSC order matching and trading platform.
      2. Tamil Nadu -
        1. Declared open the 44th Chess Olympiad at JLN Indoor Stadium (Chennai).
          1. PM had earlier launched first-ever Chess Olympiad Torch Relay at Indira Gandhi National Stadium in New Delhi on June 19, 2022.
          2. The torch travelled to 75 iconic locations in country, traversing approx 20000 kilometres and culminating in Mahabalipuram, before heading over to FIDE Headquarters (Switzerland).
          3. 44th Chess Olympiad will be held in Chennai from July 28 to August 9, 2022.
          4. This competition, which has been organised since 1927, is being hosted in India for the first time and in Asia after 30 years.
          5. With 187 countries participating, this will be the largest participation in any Chess Olympiad.
    2. July 29 is observed as World Tiger Day. It was proclaimed in 2010 at Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia where signatories declared an agreement that the governments of tiger populated counties would double tiger population by 2022, termed as TX2.
      1. As per latest data, number of tigers globally has increased from 3200 in 2015 to 4500 in 2022.
      2. In 2018, Nepal became first country to double tiger population. India also doubled tiger population in 2018.
      3. As per 4th All India Tiger Estimation 2018 (Released in 2019)-
        1. India has 70 % of world’s tiger population.
        2. Number of Tiger reserves in India has reached 52, up from 9 in 1973 (latest being Ramgarh Vishdhari in Rajasthan). Earlier 3 Tiger estimation reports were released in 2006, 2010, 2014.
        3. Count of tigers in India rose to 2967 in 2018. Count grew from 1,411 in 2006 to 2,226 in 2014 and to 2,967 in 2018.
        4. Top 5 States - Madhya Pradesh (526), Karnataka (524), Uttarakhand (442), Maharashtra (312) and Tamil Nadu (264).
      4. Notably, India’s 14 Tiger Reserves received Global CA/TS recognition for good Tiger Conservation standards.
    3. Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launched Eleventh Agricultural Census (2021-22).
      1. Agriculture Census is conducted every 5 years, which is being undertaken now after delay due to pandemic.
      2. For the first time, data collection for agricultural computations will be done on smartphones and tablets.
    4. RBI announced Digital Payments Index for March 2022, which stands at 349.30, as against 304.06 for September 2021.
      1. RBI had earlier announced a composite RBI – Digital Payments Index (RBI-DPI), with March 2018 as base, to capture extent of digitisation of payments across country.
    5. Earth broke its record for shortest day on July 29, 2022, completing its entire rotation in 1.59 milliseconds shorter than regular 24 hours.
      1. Earlier record was held by July 19, 2020; when Earth completed its rotation in a time 1.47 milliseconds lesser than a standard 24-hour day.
      2. This shows that Earth has recently been rotating faster than earlier years.
      3. Why are scientists worried -
        1. If Earth continues to rotate at a faster pace, it could lead to introduction of the negative leap second to keep the rate at which the Earth orbits the Sun consistent with measurement from atomic clocks.
        2. Negative leap second could potentially create a devastating effect for IT systems and software and GPS satellites relying on the clock.

    1. Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievance (DARPG) has announced to reduce public grievance redressal timeline from 45 days to 30 days.
    2. July 28 is observed by World Health Organization as World Hepatitis Day. 2022 theme is I can’t wait.
      1. July 28 is also observed as World Nature Conservation Day.
    3. Indian Navy took delivery of Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC) Vikrant, from Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL).
      1. It has been Designed by Indian Navy's inhouse Directorate of Naval Design (DND) and built by CSL, as successor of India's similar named Aircraft Carrier INS Vikrant.
        1. INS Vikrant was laid down as HMS Hercules for British Royal Navy during World War II, but was put on hold when the war ended.
        2. India purchased the incomplete carrier in 1957, and construction was completed in 1961.
        3. Vikrant was commissioned as first aircraft carrier of Indian Navy and played a key role in enforcing naval blockade of East Pakistan during Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.
      2. Newly built IAV Vikrant is 262 mtr long carrier has a full displacement of 45000 tonnes, which is much larger and advanced than its predecessor. It is powered by four Gas Turbines totaling 88 MW power and has a maximum speed of 28 Knots. It has been built at an overall cost of over 20000 Crores, with indigenous content of 76%.
      3. It will be commissioned into naval service on September 2, 2022.
    4. As per Govt. data on FDI -
      1. Top 5 sources for FDI equity flows into India in FY22 (2021-22) - Singapore (27.01%), USA (17.94%), Mauritius (15.98%), Netherlands (7.86%) and Switzerland (7.31%).
      2. As per UNCTAD World Investment Report 2022, India has improved one position to 7th rank among top 20 FDI host economies for 2021.
      3. India received highest annual FDI inflows of USD 84.8 Bilion in FY 22 (2021-22), compared to USD 82 Billion in FY 21 (2020-21) and USD 74.4 Billion in FY 20 (2019-20).
      4. Top 5 sectors receiving highest FDI Equity Inflow during FY 22 (2021-22) - Computer Software & Hardware (24.60%), Services Sector (12.13%), Automobile (11.89%), Trading 7.72% and Construction (Infrastructure) Activities (5.52%).
      5. Top 5 States receiving highest FDI Equity Inflow during FY 22 (2021-22) - Karnataka (37.55%), Maharashtra (26.26%), Delhi (13.93%), Tamil Nadu (5.10%) and Haryana (4.76%)

    1. Cabinet Approvals (Jul 27, 2022) -
      1. Approved MOUs -
        1. MoU between India's National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) and University of Reading (UK) for collaboration in field of agriculture and rural development in developing countries.
      2. General -
        1. Approved a project for saturation of 4G mobile services in uncovered villages across country, at cost of 26316 Crores -
          1. The project will provide 4G mobile services in 24,680 uncovered villages in remote and difficult areas.
          2. The project will include 20% additional villages on account of rehabilitation, new-settlements, withdrawal of services by existing operators etc. 
          3. Also, 6279 villages having only 2G/3G connectivity, shall be upgraded to 4G.
          4. It will be executed by BSNL using Atmanirbhar Bharat’s 4G technology stack, and will be funded through Universal Service Obligation Fund.
        2. To make BSNL financially viable, Cabinet approved revival package of BSNL amounting to 1.64 Lakh Crores. Revival measures Include -
          1. Upgrading BSNL services -
            1. Administrative allotment of Spectrum - To improve existing services and provide 4G services, BSNL will be allotted Spectrum in 900/1800 MHz band administratively at cost of 44993 Crores through equity infusion.
            2. Financial support for capex - To promote indigenous technology development, BSNL is in process of deploying Atmanirbhar 4G technology stack. To meet projected capital expenditure for next 4 years, Government will fund capex of 22471 Crores.
            3. Viability gap funding for rural wireline operations - Government will provide 13789 Crores to BSNL as viability gap funding for commercially unviable rural wire-line operations done during 2014-15 to 2019-20.
            4. Increase in authorized capital - Authorized capital of BSNL will be increased from 40000 to 150000 Crores.
          2. De-stressing BSNL balance sheet -
            1. Debt structuring - Government will provide sovereign guarantee for raising long term loan, enabling BSNL to raise long term bonds for an amount of 40399 Crores.
            2. Financial support for AGR dues - To further improve balance sheet, AGR dues of BSNL amounting to 33404 Crores will be settled by conversion into equity. Government will provide funds to BSNL for settling AGR/GST dues.
            3. Re-issue of preference shares - BSNL will re-issue preference share of 7500 Crores to the Government.
          3. Augmenting BSNL fiber network
            1. Merger of BBNL and BSNL - To facilitate wider utilization of infrastructure laid under BharatNet, Bharat Broadband Network Ltd (BBNL) will be merged with BSNL.
      3. CCEA Approvals -
        1. Approved additional investment of USD 1600 million (about 12000 crores) by BPCL Subsidiary Bharat PetroResources Ltd. (BPRL), for development of BM-SEAL-11 Concession Project in Brazil. CCEA also approved -
          1. To increase limit of equity investment by BPCL in BPRL and Authorised Share Capital of Company from 15000 crore to 20000 crores.
          2. To authorise increase in limit of equity investment by BPRL International BV in International BV Brasil Petroleo Limitada, through intermediate WOS, to 15,000 crore from current 5000 crores.
    2. On occasion of 16th Foundation Day of Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) -
      1. Union Minister Jitendra Singh launched a first-of-its-kind automated buoy-based coastal observation and water quality nowcasting system for the Indian Ocean, developed by Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad.
      2. Notably, in April 2021, Chennai-based National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) crew conducted world's deepest underwater locomotion trials of an indigenously developed seabed crawler based mining machine, sending 8-tonne crawler to 5,270 metres deep down in Indian Ocean .
      3. July 27 is also Raising Day of CRPF, Formed on July 27, 1939.

    1. July 26 is Observed as International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, adopted by UNESCO in 2015.
    2. July 26 marks Kargil Vijay Diwas. On this date in 1999, India took command of high outposts which were captured by Intruding Pakistanis.
      1. On this occasion, Point 5140 in Drass, Kargil Sector has been renamed as Gun Hill, to commemorate Indian victory in Operation Vijay during Kargil War.
    3. Mountaineer Wasifa Nazreen became first person from Bangladesh to ascend Pakistan administered K2, the second-highest mountain peak, with 8611 metres height.
    4. Defence Acquisition Council under chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved Capital Acquisition Proposals of Armed Forces amounting to 28732 crores, under Buy (Indian IDDM) and Buy (Indian) categories.
      1. Among approved proposals are 3 proposals of Indian Army - Guided Extended Range Rocket Ammunition, Area Denial Munition Type I and Infantry Combat Vehicle – Command (8599 crores). Induction of Swarm Drones has also been approved.
      2. Approved Navy’s proposal to procure upgraded 1250KW capacity Marine Gas Turbine Generator for power generation application onboard Kolkata class of ships through Indian Industry.
      3. Approved procurement of 14 Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) for Indian Coast Guard under Buy (Indian-IDDM) with 60% Indigenous content.
    5. International Cricket Council (ICC) awarded membership status to three new countries, during ICC Annual conference in Birmingham (UK).
      1. New members include Cote D'Ivoire (West Africa), Cambodia (Southeast Asia) and Uzbekistan (Central Asia). It has taken number of ICC members to 108 countries, including 96 associates. 
      2. During Conference, India has been announced as host of ICC Women's ODI Cricket World Cup 2025.
    6. Gujarat govt announced Gujarat Semiconductor Policy 2022-27, becoming first Indian state to launch a dedicated semiconductor policy.
      1. It aims to generate over 200000 employment opportunities in sector during 2022-27.
      2. Gujarat government has also decided to develop a semicon city, as part of Dholera Special Investment Region.
      3. Projects approved under Design-linked Incentive scheme of Central Govt, will not be eligible for availing benefits under the new policy.
    7. Canara Bank launched Canara ai1 mobile banking app, as a one-stop solution with more than 250 features to cater to the banking needs of its customers.
    8. Book on legendary actor Yusuf Khan (known as Dilip Kumar), titled In the Shadow of a Legend: Dilip Kumar, authored by Faisal Farooqui, has been released.

    2. Jul 25 is observed by WHO as World Drowning Prevention Day.
    3. Zimbabwe launched gold coins to be sold to public, to tame inflation that has further eroded country’s unstable currency.
      1. The coin is called ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ which refers to Victoria Falls in the local Tonga language.
      2. Coins will have liquid asset status, to enable their conversion to cash, and make them locally and internationally tradable.
      3. Cost of one coin was $1,824 at the time of launch.
    4. India named Pranay Kumar Verma as its new High Commissioner (Ambassador) to Bangladesh.
      1. Also, Bangladesh govt appointed Mustafizur Rahman as Bangladesh's new High Commissioner (ambassador) to India.
    5. A rare pure pink diamond, named Lulo Rose, believed to be largest found in 300 years, has been discovered in Angola (Central Africa).
      1. Lulo Rose is a type 2a diamond, meaning it has few or no impurities. Its a 170-carat pink diamond, weighing 34 grams.
      2. Similar diamonds have been bought for heavy prices in past, with one – known as Pink Star – selling at a Hong Kong auction for $71.2m (£59m) in 2017.
    6. Tamil Nadu government issued order to implement first phase of the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme at 1545 government primary schools, for children in Classes I-V. Cost would be 33.56 crores.
    7. Union Bank of India (UBI) named RACE as its aim, looking to become third-largest Public Sector Bank. RACE Stands for -

    1. Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has been named as New Prime Minister of Kuwait.
    2. July 24 is Observed by Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) as Income Tax Day (Aayakar Diwas). On this day in 1860, Income Tax was introduced for first time in India by James Wilson.
    3. 2022 World Athletics Championships (Eugene (US)) -
      1. Highlights -
        1. Originally scheduled for August 6–15, 2021, it was postponed by one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
        2. After 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, World Athletics banned all Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating at the championships. Stringent vaccination requirements for people entering US also caused visa delays. These issues caused final total to stand at 179 nations (180 including Athlete Refugee Team), the lowest number since Tokyo 1991 championships.
        3. A record 29 countries won at least one gold medal during the championships. Peru, Kazakhstan, and Nigeria won their first-ever gold medals, while India and Burkina Faso had their best medal performances, with silver, and the Philippines with bronze.

        2. Javelin Thrower Rohit Yadav also qualified for finals, with throw of 80.42 metres.
        3. 21 Indian Athletes had participated in the championships.
        4. Notably, Eldhose Paul became first Indian to qualify for triple jump final at World Athletics Championships, with a jump of 16.68 metres.

        1. World Athletics Championships are biennial athletics competition organized by World Athletics. Due to Covid-19 related disruptions, 2021 edition was postponed to 2022.
        2. Next edition of World Athletics Championships will be held in 2023, in Budapest (Hungary).
        3. Further, World Athletics has named Tokyo (Japan) as host of 2025 edition of World Athletics Championships.

      1. It means an instrument issued by a Not for Profit Organisation (NPO), which will be registered with the social stock exchange segment of a recognised stock exchange. These instruments will be governed by rules made by SEBI.
      2. Social Stock Exchange (SSE) is a novel concept in India, meant to serve private and non-profit sector providers by channelling greater capital to them.
    4. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma launched Swanirbhar Naari scheme, to empower indigenous weavers, to help preserve heritage of handlooms and textiles in state.

      2. She won votes from total of 2824 electors, including 540 MPs. Notably, total number of votes in Electoral College for presidential elections is 4896 (MPs - 776, Legislators (MLAs) - 4120).
    3. NTPC signed Statement of Intent (SoI) with NITI Aayog, to develop Net Zero GHG emissions Roadmap for NTPC.

    6. RBI prescribed 4-tier regulatory structure for urban cooperative banks (UCBs), accepting recommendation of an expert committee headed by N S Vishwanathan (former RBI deputy governor), which was constituted in 2021 to suggest changes aimed at strengthening UCBs.
      1. RBI has now decided to adopt a simple four-tiered regulatory framework with differentiated regulatory prescriptions to strengthen existing UCBs.

      1. Cheetah restoration in India will be part of a prototype for restoration of original cheetah habitats and their biodiversity.
      2. After Surveys for 10 sites conducted between 2010 and 2012, Kuno National Park (Madhya Pradesh) was considered ready for receiving cheetah with least management interventions, since a lot of investments had been done in this Protected Area for reintroducing Asiatic lions.

    2. PM Narendra Modi Inaugurated Bundelkhand Expressway at Kaitheri village in Orai tehsil of Jalaun district.
      1. Bundelkhand Expressway is 296 km long, connecting Gonda village on NH-35 in Chitrakoot district with Kudrail village on Agra–Lucknow Expressway in Etawah district.
      2. Built at cost of over 14710 Crores, it will boost tourism to Chitrakoot Dham.
      3. UP now has most (13) expressways, with length of 3200 km. Work is going on on seven expressways, while six expressways are operational.
    3. Japanese government posthumously honored former PM Shinzo Abe with country’s highest decoration the Collar of the Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum. Notably, He was shot dead recently. Shinzo Abe is fourth Japanese former premier to receive this honour.
    4. Maharashtra Govt felicitated Actress Dia Mirza (UNEP National Goodwill Ambassador) and Afroz Shah (Environmental Activist) with Mother Teresa Memorial Awards for Social Justice 2021.

      2. Among 4 frigates to be built at MDL, 2 have been launched and named Nilgiri and Udaygiri, while other 2 are to be named.
      3. Among 3 frigates to be built at GRSE, 2 have been launched and named Himgiri and Dunagiri, while 1 is to be named.
    3. Cabinet approved to introduce Central Universities (Amendment) Bill 2022, to amend Central Universities Act 2009, for setting up Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV).

    2. China announced to launch its new space-based solar observatory later in 2022, called Advanced Space-Based Solar Observatory (ASO-S), to study relationship between solar magnetic field, solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs).
      1. ASO-S weighs around 888 kg, and will be first platform to have three payloads on board. Payloads are Full-disk vector MagnetoGraph (FMG), the Lyman-α Solar Telescope (LST) and Hard X-ray Imager (HXI). It is Planned for installment at an altitude of 720 km, to complete one orbit around Earth every 90 minutes in a sun-synchronous orbit.
      2. ASO-S is successor of H-alpha Solar Explorer (CHASE) named "Xihe", which was launched in October 2021 to study violent and sudden physical processes behind solar flares.
    3. Tripura government launched scheme Earn with Learn, to bring back those who had dropped out of schools following Covid-19 outbreak, as part of  Vidyalaya Chalo Abhiyan.
      1. This will involve third-year students from all colleges in conducting surveys to detect dropouts across classes.
      2. Each volunteer will be given Rs 500, if they enrol a dropout student in same school.
    4. Indian IT Firm Infosys acquired Denmark-based BASE Life Science, for around 110 million euros (approx 875 crores), to expand footprint in life sciences industry and expand presence in Europe.

Nasscom Foundation and Google announced to jointly set up DigiVaani call centre, in collaboration with Indian Society of Agribusiness Professionals (ISAP), to help women farmers scale up their business.         1. Approved free COVID-19 Precaution Dose for all citizens above 18 years of age, at Government vaccination centres, from 15th July 2022 till next 75 days.
      2. CCEA Approvals -
        1. Approved construction of Taranga Hill-Ambaji- Abu Road new rail line in Gujarat, to be constructed at cost over 2798 crores.
          1. Total length of new rail line will be 116.65 kms, to be completed by 2026-27.
          2. Notably, new rail line will provide better connectivity to Ambaji, a famous pilgrimage destination and one of 51 Shaktipeeths in India, and Ajitnath Jain temple (one of the 24 holy Jain Tirthankaras) at Taranga Hill.
    2. Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launched Platform of Platforms (POP) under National Agriculture Market (e-NAM), to further ease up selling farmers' produce outside their states.
      1. Equity grant of over Rs 37 crore was also released to 1,018 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), to benefit about 3.5 lakh farmers.
    3. Department of Consumer Affairs has set up a committee to develop comprehensive framework on Right to Repair, to be chaired by Nidhi Khare (Additional Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs).
      1. Aim of developing a framework on right to repair in India is to empower consumers in local market, harmonize trade between original equipment manufacturers and third-party buyers and sellers, emphasize on developing sustainable consumption of products and reduction in e-waste.
      2. It can boost sustainability of products and promote employment generation, by allowing third-party repairs.
      3. Also, As a first such move globally, New York state legislature (US) recently passed right to repair bill, that will require digital electronics manufacturers to make parts, tools, information, and software available to consumers and independent repair shops. This will enable independent repair shops to compete with manufacturers.
    4. Space startup Agnikul Cosmos launched India’s first private factory dedicated to building rocket engines, in Chennai.
      1. This facility will use additive manufacturing technology to build 3D printed rocket engines, and will be used to produce engines for its own in-house rockets.
      2. It aims to launch Agnibaan, its two-stage launch vehicle, by end of 2022.
    5. South Korea Based Tech Giant Samsung developed world's fastest graphics dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) chip.
      1. 24-gigabit Graphics Double Data Rate 6 (GDDR6) adopts third-generation, 10-nanometer technology and boasts data processing speed over 30 % faster than existing products.
      2. New DRAM chip can process graphic images at a rate of up to 1.1 terabytes per second, which is claimed as fastest in world and equivalent to processing 275 full HD movies in a second.
      3. Graphics DRAMs are widely used in high-powered 3D games, personal computers, notebooks or devices that play videos with a high resolution.

    2. International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) issued a framework for Angel funds under IFSCA (Fund Management) Regulations 2022 (which was issued earlier in April 2022) -
      1. A Fund Management Entity (FME) in IFSC will be able to launch Angel Fund by filing a placement memorandum with Authority under a Green Channel.
      2. Angel Funds shall accept investments from accredited investors or investors who are willing to commit at least USD 40000 over 5 years.
      3. While investment (s) by an Angel Fund in a start-up is capped at USD 1500000, the Angel fund is permitted to invest in subsequent rounds of fund raising by start-up, to protect its shareholding from dilution.

    1. New labour codes came into effect from July 1, 2022 onwards, framed after amalgamating 29 labour laws now into 4 labour codes. Under this -
      1. A set of 4 New Labour codes have been introduced by Central Government, with new rules on wages, industrial relations, social security and occupational safety, health and working conditions.
      2. Highlights include -
        1. 4-day work week -
          1. Employers can allow their employees to work for four days a week instead of the traditional five days of the week. However, the employees who will opt for a four-day work week will see an increase in work as their working hours will increase to 12 hours.
          2. Total working hours will remain unchanged at 48 hours.
        2. Eligibility for leave -
          1. Earlier law required to have worked for a minimum of 240 working days in a year to ask for leave. It has now been reduced to 180 working days.
        3. Take Home Salary will go down, as PF contributions of employees and employers will increase. Under new Labour Codes, Provident Fund contribution is required to be a proportion of 50 per cent of gross pay.

    4. India’s 2nd largest floating Solar Power Project is now operational, with NTPC beginning Commercial Operations of final part capacity of 20 MW out of 100 MW Ramagundam Floating Solar PV Project at Ramagundam, Telangana.
      1. Few days back, Tata Power subsidiary Tata Power Solar commissioned India's largest floating solar power project in Kayamkulam (Kerala), on a 350-acre water body, with installed capacity of 101.6 Megawatt Peak.
      2. Also, world’s largest floating solar power plant will be built at Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh, which will generate 600 Megawatt power. It will be constructed at cost of over 3000 crore, over Omkareshwar Dam.
    5. 2022 United Nations Ocean Conference (Lisbon, Portugal) -
      1. Co-hosted by Kenya and Portugal, to seek to propel much needed science-based innovative solutions aimed at saving global oceans.
      2. Overarching theme of 2022 UN Ocean Conference is Scaling up ocean action based on science and innovation for the implementation of Goal 14: stocktaking, partnerships and solutions. It was originally scheduled to be held in 2020, however, it had to be postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic. 
      3. Union Minister Jitendra Singh attended on India's Behalf. India reiterated its goals -
        1. To reduce India’s emissions by 45 percent by adding 500 gigawatts of renewable energy, thereby reducing almost 1 billion tonne of CO2 emissions.
        2. To protect at least 30 % of lands, waters and oceans, to adhere to its commitment of global goal of 30x30 by 2030.
          1. Note that India joined High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People, which was initiated at One Planet Summit in Paris in January 2021, which aims to promote an international agreement to protect at least 30% of the world's land and ocean by 2030 called 30 by 30 or 30x30.
    6. Gross GST revenue collected in June 2022 stood at 144616 crores (CGST 25306 crores, SGST 32406 crores, IGST 75887 crores and cess 11018 crores). It is 2nd highest monthly GST collection so far, with highest being in April 2022 (167540 crores).
    7. IN-SPACe (Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center) and ISRO successfully launched two payloads of Indian Start-ups, onboard PSLV C53 mission.
      1. Three satellites from Singapore were primary payload, whereas payloads from two Indian startups, Dhruva Space and Digantara, were also launched to low-Earth orbit.
      2. Singapore satellites included DS-EO, NeuSAR and Scoob-1 satellites (Nanyang Technological University).
      3. PSLV-C53 mission was 2nd dedicated private mission of New Space India Limited (NSIL), a state-owned firm under Department of Space. First commercial mission of NSIL was Feb 2021 launch of Amazonia-1 for Brazil along with 18 co-passenger satellites, onboard PSLV C-51.

    14. Himachal CM Jai Ram Thakur launched Himachal Road Transport Corporation's Naari Ko Naman scheme. Under it, HRTC will charge women travellers only half the fare for their travel within the state.
