Home > SSC Recruitment > SSC CGL Updated Examination Pattern - Selection Process Changed

Staff selection commission has updated selection process and examination pattern to be adopted for the combined graduate level examination 2016.

Under the provisions of Notice issued for the updated selection process, Commission has decided to reduce Number of Questions from 200 to 100 in Tier-I Examination. Note that it wil still have weightage of 200 marks (1 question will carry 2 marks).

Duration of the Tier-I examination will be 75 minutes (redued from 120 minutes for 200 questions earlier).

Staff selection commission also decided to conduct Tier-I and Tier-II in computer based examination (Online) mode in place of written (OMR based) examination mode. Tier-I is scheduled to be held from 27th August, 2016.

Revised scheme of exam will be - General Intelligence & Reasoning -25 Questions, General Awareness - 25 Questions, Quantitative Aptitude - 25 Questions, English Comprehension 25 Questions.

Each question will carry 2 marks. Time is 75 minutes (For VH and candidates suffering from Cerebral Palsy: 100 Minutes). There will be negative marking of 0.50 for each wrong answer in Tier-I. In respect of TierII, the negative marking system will remain unchanged.

Additionally, SSC will introduce a Descriptive Paper of English/Hindi as Tier-III. It will be in Hindi / English. Tier 3 will be Descriptive Paper in English/Hindi (writing of Essay/Precis/Letter /Application Writing etc). It will have Total marks 100 and total time of 60 minutes.

Final merit will be prepared on overall performance in Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III. However, the candidate will need to qualify all the tiers i.e. Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III separately. There will be no sectional cut-off.

So we see that SSC has entirely changed the selection process. candidates must be ready to face up with this new pattern. Now, SSC CGL exam will also be online, as in case of Banking entrance exams conducted by IBPS. Level of questions is expected to rise as number of questions is coming down. Marks allotted for each question and average time provided for attempting each question, both have increased.

However, it is still to be seen as to what exaclty the level of questions will be. candidates must stay ready for Tier 1 to be held on 27-08-2016.

We wish all the best to all the candidates looking forward to participate in SSC CGL 2016 Examination.
