NIT Nagaland Admission 2025 PhD Course Application Form


National Institute of Technology (NIT) Nagaland invites applications for admission to its PhD programs (Full-Time/Part-Time) under the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT (Phase-II) and other disciplines for the Academic Year 2025-26. Funded by MeitY, Govt. of India, this program offers research opportunities in cutting-edge fields such as Electronics, IT, Engineering, and Interdisciplinary Research (IR).

Eligible candidates can apply for PhD programs in:

  • Engineering (CE, EEE, ECE, CSE, EIE, ME)

  • Science & Humanities (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry)

  • Integrated PhD (for Engineering graduates)

  • Interdisciplinary Research (IR) Topics



Eligibility Criteria:

For PhD in Engineering & Technology:

Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology with First Class (60% marks or CGPA 6.5/10) (55% for SC/ST).

MS by Research / 5-year Integrated Masters from CFTIs with ;CGPA 6.5/10 or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST).

Bachelor's degree (B.E./B.Tech);with ;CGPA 8.5/10 or 80% marks + valid GATE score Exempted if from IIT/NIT/CFTI).

For PhD in Science & Humanities:

Master’s degree in Science/Humanities with First Class (60% marks or CGPA 6.5/10) (55% for SC/ST).

For Integrated PhD (Engineering only):

B.E./B.Tech with CGPA 8.5/10 or 80% marks;GATE score (Exempted for IIT/NIT/CFTI graduates).

Admission Procedure:

Admission will be granted based on a written test or interview, depending on the number of shortlisted candidates. The selection process is designed to assess the academic potential and research aptitude of the applicants.

Applicants who have qualified GATE or NET examinations will be given preference during the selection process, as these scores reflect a strong foundation in the relevant subject area.

Those applying under the Interdisciplinary Research (IR) category are required to submit a research proposal of approximately 250 to 300 words, outlining their intended area of study and the significance of their research approach.



Application Fee :

Application fee is ₹1000 for candidates belonging to General and OBC categories. However, candidates from SC, ST, and PH categories are exempted from paying the application fee.

How to Apply :

The completed application form, along with all required enclosures, must be sent through Registered Post to the given address: Associate Dean (R&C), NIT Nagaland, Chumukedima – 797103, Nagaland. Applicants are advised to ensure that the envelope is properly sealed and clearly marked to avoid any postal delays or confusion.

The mentioned documents must be enclosed with the application: copies of academic certificates, GATE or NET scorecard (if applicable), a research proposal for candidates applying under the Interdisciplinary Research (IR) category, and a relieving certificate for those who are currently employed and applying as full-time candidates.
